In this one moment, the day is at peace, emotions collide and the beauty of the day, the individual and the loved shared by two people is revealed. Today we honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I recognize that I, like many, am Living "The Dream" daily as I watch my bi-racial son grow in a world where he will be afforded opportunities that were not granted to those that came before him. My 93 year old grandmother relives those moments through the images on tv and I stand proud that so many have sacrificed so that we can have. We must do better as a people to move closer to the dream that Dr. King gave his life in support of. How do you live "The Dream"?

Transparency: The gray side of marriage

If you follow me (@poshevents)on twitter late last night I tweeted that today would be the day I did a transparency post. My assistant Jenelle (@jenellethemodel) does transparency tweets all the time and I've always admired her courage to be totally exposed in her testimony. I've had an issue lying on my heart for quite sometime now and figured the blog is my ultimate medium, and I really miss blogging, so what better place and what better time?

In this industry we are often flooded with the ideal picture of love. What it is and what it should be. Society will tell you that if you are not married by xxx age, you are flawed, and when you do get married you live the perfect life, swept away by a prince and go off together into happily ever after land.

The reality is that this may not be the case.

As a newlywed I can honestly say the first year of marriage was quite the challenge. I love my husband and undeniably he loves me, however, I don't know if we were ever prepared for the road that would follow shortly after the "I dos". During the first year I must have answered to "how's married life" a million times, but never knowing exactly what to say. Do you say "challenging at times" or is perfect with a smile the only acceptable answer to give?

I do this for a living. How could I, Wedding planner, educated with three degrees, met my Mr. charming, married in my fantasy wedding, not say perfect? After all, I love my husband and he loves me.

The period of engagement is quite the fantasy. Everyone is so supportive of your love and your upcoming celebration that often times it is easy to lose sight of the purpose. The relationship. The bond. The legally binding, split everything in half, through thick and thin, bond...and all of a sudden the lights have faded on your ceremony and you wake up in your reality.

It's not always easy.

It's been laying so heavily on my heart to say the things that society is afraid to say. You may NOT live in a honeymoon phase for the first 5 years, or maybe not even the first 5 months. Your marriage will face challenges. You will hit speed bumps and road blocks just like any other relationship. You may even potentially face a problem that appears to be bigger than you, that will test your faith and your commitment. You may NOT want to be bothered sometimes. You may NOT be able to perform as the perfect husband or perfect wife and may not always know all of the answers. You WILL be disappointed in your spouse at times. It's reality and it's a reality that unfortunately no one ever speaks of so when you find yourself in the situation you feel abandoned, alone and dare I say it regretting your decision.

I've been there so I know it happens.

And it's perfectly OK.

What I've learned about "marriage", the institution, is that it withstands challenges, it is forgiving and it does overcome.

I married my better half a little over a year ago and what we've learned as a couple is that the formula for a great marriage is communication, dedication and faith, not perfection. Everything in life is not always as it seems nor is it always black and white. Somethings in life just stay in the gray.

Sage Speaks: Can I Ask You a Favor?

Just like so many other things, there are about a million choices when choosing your wedding favors. Sometimes it may even seem like there are too many choices! But if you focus in on one particular aspect of your wedding (or other event), it should be easier to choose the favors, as well as other things.

For example, try focusing in on colors or the season-fall is just around the corner! Take inspiration from famous fall colors-those deep reds and beautiful oranges can spice up any event. How about this-instead of a regular margarita, try using a pumpkin liquor and trimming the edge of the glass with brown sugar instead of salt! Here are some fantastic fall favors that just might find themselves at your next event!
Caramel corn-a tasty treat that your guests can enjoy!
Leaf bottle opener-a practical favor, and something your friends can actually use!
Personalized fall leaf petals-write something so your favorite people can remember your event!

Sage Speaks: Forget White-Go Green!

More and more people are “going green.” They’re changing from plastic water bottles to reusable bottles, getting shorter showers, driving hybrid cars, and cutting back on their paper use. Being environmentally friendly for a wedding isn’t always the first thing on the bride’s mind, however there are quite a few things that you can do to make your wedding enviro-chic. Instead of cut flowers for a centerpiece, you could have small trees or plants that your guests can take home and plant. Don’t like that idea? Try to buy locally-grown, or organic flowers. Instead of throwing rice or blowing bubbles, give your guests seeds to throw-birds will eat them and they will eventually turn into beautiful landscaping. Plus, there’s always the literal idea of a green theme (green colors), or have your event outdoors, surrounded by nature!

How else can you incorporate environmental friendliness in your wedding, without losing style? Here are a few tips:

• Minimize the amount of driving your guests will need to do
• Donate leftover food rather than tossing it out
• Don’t register for things you don’t need; give your guests the option of making a donation to a cause close to your heart

From our very first conversation, I could tell that Sage was very special. Eager, fresh and such a great spirit. You know the kind of person that walks into a room like a total ray of sunshine? That's our Sage!

So, without further ado Internet meet Sage...

My Own Dream Come True

My name is Sage, and I am the newest intern at POSH Events, and I am thrilled to be here! I am a high school senior looking forward to the excitement and adventures that come with the last year of high school. I also coach elementary school girls softball, ride horses, and am in several community service clubs at my school. I feel extremely fortunate to have this amazing opportunity at POSH Events to get some behind-the-scenes knowledge of a job that makes people’s dream events come true.

Since 7th grade, I have known that I wanted to be an event planner. I have always been the one in my family planning everything from activities to our pet’s birthday parties. I have even helped my friends plan several small events. The rush that comes from making someone happy by giving them the exact event that they dreamed of is amazing. I am beyond meticulous with everything that I do. My life is color-coded, highlighted, and sticky noted to the point of obsessive-but it’s how things get done efficiently, which is why the only career suited for my organizational and planning skills is event planning.

The only problem was that I couldn’t find anyone willing to take me on as an intern-until I was referred to Isis, who completely saved my senior year of high school.

Without Isis and POSH Events, I wouldn’t be able to get the real-world experience that a person really needs in order to succeed. So I have POSH to thank for making my own dream come true, and I look forward to helping you make your dream event come true, as well!

Sage, we are so happy to have you as part of our "crazy, busy, rewarding, wouldn't change it for anything in the world" lives!

Favor

I rarely discuss religion on the blog, as a matter of personal preference, but today, as a way of documenting exactly how I feel, in THIS moment, it is a necessity.

One word.

Favor.

As the east coast prepares for hurricane Irene, and those around me are in a total state of chaos, television and radio stations are flooded with news of her impending arrival, flights delayed, friends evacuated and family on edge in general, I feel incredibly blessed.

Highly favored.

I woke up this morning, a bit deviated from my usual state of wedding day mind. I looked at my husband and said "I'm scared". My husband responded "do you have to go" to which I answered "it's MY couple". I think he got it.

In the many years we've been fortunate enough to plan events, we have been blessed to never miss one. Through the storms, blizzards and even, the hurricanes. I think back to Toni & Rodney's wedding, which also took place during a hurricane in 2008 and how my team overcame the many obstacles we faced that day.

I think of my colleagues like Candice Capolla of Jubilee Events in Connecticut, who was able to help her couple move their wedding 5 hours ahead to try to avoid the storm. I think of the ladies of A Garden Party Florist, who missed our latest Wish Upon A Wedding event on Thursday, after receiving a phone call that their couple scheduled to get married today, were moving their wedding to that same day (Thursday). How they dropped everything that we were doing and drive drove 1.5 hours to Cape May, to deliver for their couple. I think about all of my facebook friends, twitter family and colleagues who are sacrificing today. The guests who are driving to attend events today and witness, even if just for a little while. The brides & grooms who are sitting patiently hoping for the best...and I realize, just how BLESSED I am.

Today, more than ever, I am so proud of my community. The community of event professionals who always get it done. Who deliver regardless of circumstance and regardless of fear because we specialize in how not to REACT but to move into action.

Every. Time.

With that, I will sign off as I finish preparing for the marriage of Sandi & Terrance. If you are on the roads today, please proceed with caution and be safe. For those of you who are home, please do the same. I pray that as a community we survive this hurricane and remain bonded in our strength to get past all of the "natural" disasters that come our way.

Share my world: The Morning of...

I last left the planner plans series here. Since the wedding, many of you have reached out to me to ask if I was going to continue the series with recaps and well, truth be told, I looked up and 8 months were gone. So without further ado, I introduce my recap series, "Share my world"...

1...

It was finally here, the day before the big day. I would spend the day caravaning picking up my bridesmaids arriving by air, bus and train. I could hardly contain myself knowing that my "rocks" would all be with me to get me down the aisle.

Rental car, check. Pick up dress, check. Rehearsal dinner gifts, spa day confirmation and out of office autoreply-check, check, check. It was official...I was off. One day before the wedding and I was determined to spend it with the girls I've known the majority of my life at the spa.

Oh universe, if it was only that simple...

Instead, Mr. Charming didn't quite realize that he would be the one driving to pick up our seating chart and instead made other arrangements. So instead of relaxing, I spent the day on the phone-worried about my bridesmaid whose flight was delayed from LAX and who would pick her up and how we were going to pick up the seating chart,check-in AND make it to rehearsal on time.

My friend, colleague and amazing wedding planner, Deidre, called and told me not to worry...suddenly I found peace.

My gorgeous bridesmaid took a taxi from the airport to surprise me at the spa, the boys drove the turnpike and picked up the seating chart, we made it (almost) on time to the rehearsal and had a great time at the rehearsal dinner at Kabuki Japanese Restaraunt.

My world was right...

The next day I opened my eyes at 4:00am. In a hotel suite full of girls not a peep could be heard. I opened the blinds and called Mr. Charming who also couldn't sleep. He went to his window and we watched the sunrise. It was so amazing. I felt so amazing.

The rest of the day seriously flew by.

First on the agenda was hair and makeup. In true non-diva fashion, I hopped in the car with 2 of my bridesmaids and drove over the bridge to my regular salon. After a quick chic-fil-a run, we were headed back for makeup. The one requirement I had for the girls was that they all had their makeup professionally done. As gorgeous as I think my girls are, it was important to me to have that moment of bonding and to put the "finishing touch" on the ladies...all nine of them.

Throughout the morning I received lots of calls, texts, facebook messages and tweets of good luck. My best friend Sophie who couldn't attend from Atlanta due to surgery, also called to wish me well.

As makeup was wrapping up, our photographers handed me a card from the hubby...and then they started. Tears, lots of tears.

The moment finally felt real.

I looked over into my crowded suite and with the music blasting, my sister, friends and family dancing, my dad playing paparrazi, I knew that even if everything went wrong from this point forward, I was content. Lucky for me, the day only got better.

The girls gathered around and all helped me get dressed. Yes..ALL. Which is hysterical b/c with 8 sets of arms plus my mom, there really wasn't too much room. One would push tighter, the other looser and eventually we just burst out into laughter

Mom gave her once over and seal of approval.

The clock struck six, fireworks began and our photographer Angie said "sweetie, it's time to go". The she took this shot.

It was Finally.My.Time. Giddy is an understatement.

POSH Event: Katie marries JP

Infectious. That's the one word that describes her smile and their love. Make that two.. Incredibly.Infectious.

I remember the first time they sat across from me in the studio, talking about their wedding. Lots of laugh, lots of paper and many memories exchanged. Katie and JP were actually guests at Kelly & Vinnie's wedding the year before. When they said they didn't even know I was there, I knew it was a score for the home team.

Fast forward many months, meetings and memories later to wedding day. We walked into the suite at the Loews hotel and in typical Katie fashion, all was calm and not a thing out of place. My assistant Malakeia and I literally did a double take and I blurted out "this can not be a bridal party suite".

By the evening, the ceremony was underway and in a ballroom surrounded by over 100 of their friends and family, the couple with the infectious love, the infectious laughter and too many memories to count, were married. In that instant, everything was new, yet felt so familiar.

I've had the honor of working with so many couples over the years. Many who have since become friends and Katie and JP were an easy addition to the list. Seriously, are they not the cutest couple ever?

Preservation of a different kind-Florals

I loved my wedding bouquet. Loved. Truth be told, I was obsessed.

Working with Denise of Leigh Florist over the last six years really taught me to let the experts do what you pay them to do. Though giddy, there were many moments where I borderlined being totally removed. Florals was one of these areas.

I recalled walking into the studio, sitting down telling Denise my budget and to do what she does best. She looked at me, laughed and said I had a little homework to do. As the weeks grew closer and closer to the wedding, I must have visited Denise atleast 4 times. With changes. Ridiculous changes.

On the last visit she politely told me to step away...

I gladly did and on the morning of 12/31/10 when I arrived back to my suite at the Hyatt, this is what I saw:

I cried overjoyed that what I had in my head, unable to communicate into words for months was sitting right in front of me. When I say I fell in love that day, second to my husband was definitely my bouquet. My line item on the budget that I told myself "didn't mean too much"...I found myself crying over. Then it died.

Anxious to leave for our honeymoon, I did what I often advise my brides NOT to do, put my bouquet in a vase and happily went on my way!

Lucky for me, I know the florist so requesting a replica is no big deal. Truth be told though, the concept of florals in a box just leaves something missing for me. So...what do you do when you want something a little different?

Insert Dori Spector Fine Art. Dori was referred to us by one of our current grooms and has found a way to offer brides the ability to preserve their wedding imagery, via fine art.

The last few months has been full of change for me. Personally, I went from being single to a wife, which is an amazing experience of it's own. Professionally, POSH has grown to exceed my expectations. I have clients I adore, a team of strong, intelligent supportive women who work along side me in this journey, and industry peers who fuel my creativity and drive.

I'm blessed.

Late last year I accepted a Board position for Wish Upon a Wedding Philadelphia Chapter, the world's first wish granting organization providing weddings and vow renewals for couples facing terminal illness and serious life-altering circumstances, regardless of sexual orientation . Most recently, I became the Co-Director for the Association of Bridal Consultants South Jersey Local Networking Group.

It wasn't until earlier this week that I sat down and really reflected on how far this dream of mine has grown. The Association of Bridal Consultants is where I started my career. When I joined many years ago, I was a novice, new to the world of weddings and eager to learn. I met an experienced planner in Northern New Jersey who allowed me to shadow her to gain real world experience...and the rest, well, as they say is history.

Beyond blessed.

Over the next month we will be undergoing monumental changes over at POSH that I am so excited to share!

Until then, I'll leave you with this. Dream bigger than you ever could. When you get to that point, exceed it.

Win a day with POSH

As we previously announced, in exactly 10 days we will be unveiling the new POSH and we are over the moon excited. To celebrate, we are having a party! But what's a party without an awesome giveaway?

So, starting today and running until midnight the on May 1st, we are allowing couples getting married between now and May 2012 to enter our contest to win a day with POSH!

Official contest rules below.

Contest Details:

Entries must be emailed to info@posheventsllc.com, subject line "Win a day with POSH!" no later than May 1, 2011, and the prize will be awarded for weddings dated from 9/1/11 to 5/1/12.

Entrant must also like us at our POSH Events, LLC fan page on Facebook for further details regarding our "How Sweet it is" POSH Celebration.

Entries received after 5/1/11 will NOT be accepted. The winning couple will be announced at the POSH celebration (date to be announced) and the couple physically must be present to claim their prize.

Contest Rules and the fine print...
1) Entries may be made by either the couple, or by family or friends.

2) The wedding must take place within a 60 mile radius of Cherry Hill, NJ. A venue must be secured at the time of entry. Events taking place in excess of 60 miles will have to compensate for travel expense.

3) You must be a new POSH Client and can not have previously secured services prior to May 1, 2011. Entrant will receive a POSH Deluxe (Day of) Wedding Management package.

4) This offer cannot be combined with any other discount, contest, or other winnings.

6) The entry email must be titled "Win a day with POSH" and must outline why you feel the couple deserves to win. Feel free to include pictures, DVD’s, or anything else you can think of to tell your story. The entry must also include the date of your wedding, number of guest and location of both the ceremony and reception.

7) The Bride or Groom must be physically present at the POSH appreciation party to claim their prize. Non-attendance will forfeit your entry.

Speaking to the Southern NJ ABC Local Networking Group April 26, 2011

I'm so honored to be asked to speak at the Southern NJ Association of Bridal Consultants Local Networking Group meeting later this month.

The Association of Bridal Consultants is actually where my career first started. While attending wedding planning courses at Temple University Ft Washington Campuses, (Can we say career student?!), I first learned of the Association and attended my first local conference. During the conference, I met a Wedding Planner from Northern NJ who so graciously allowed me to shadow her at her events, and the rest well...is history.

I've been extremely honored to speak at conferences before, but this particular group is very near and dear to me. Every new client that we receive, every colleague along the way, every vendor referral, I'm thankful for all of it and acknowledge that we are only as strong as our support system. Many great relationships were formed out of networking through this organization.

I'm looking forward to sharing my experiences with a group of my peers, giving insight to the "POSH" experience and learning along the way.

Honored.

In this business there are many times that I have been moved. When I walk my brides to those double doors, when we receive thank you notes, when my inbox is filled with pictures of POSH bundles of joy. I'm always moved.

Today however, it's personal.

In an industry where it is easy to "get in" and incredibly difficult to maintain, where turnover is high and loyalty not so much, I've been extremely fortunate. Not just with POSH as a business, but with the many relationships that have evolved out of this business, my passion.

When I got engaged, I was immediately hit with an overwhelming feeling of fear. Would MY wedding be good enough? Would people be moved by my story enough to be featured? Printed? Would anyone even care? I'm not going to lie, at times it was extremely stressful. See with a client it's easy. I can pick amazing picture, after amazing picture, eyes closed. With our wedding however, I came to the realization that I am not superwoman. With a little help from my friends, I realized our wedding was not going to be designed for display purposes. It's was going to be a reflection of "us" and that would be good enough.

So today, 3 months after we exchanged vows to see our wedding featured TODAY on The Brides Cafe and Essence.com after being featured previously on Munaluchi Bridal , three industry publications that do amazing things for couples in general and of color specifically, I am honored. And humbled.

I want to say thank you internet for all that you do. For the many phone calls, text's, tweets and "likes" of support. For allowing me during this process to feel like a "Bride" and not just a planner, for supporting Mr. Charming and I and allowing me to remain #giddy. From the bottom of my heart, I appreciate it.

Happy Anniversary to the Irizarry's

Hope and Peter were more like family then clients. From the first meeting, when Hope, Peter and Mother Johnson arrived at the studio, planning binder and Eagles cap in hand, I knew we were going to have a good time.

A few months later, they exchanged vows at St. Matthews Baptist Church and hosted a brunch reception for their nearest and dearest at Lucien's Manor. Their ceremony was one of my absolute favorites as the Bride surprised the groom with a solo during the vows.

Hope & Peter, I'm truly blessed that you trusted POSH with your big day and even moreso that we have become friends. I wish you both a lifetime of love and many, many more anniversaries (and babies) to come.

Here's to year#2. Wow how time flies!

We had the honor of coordinating Bethany and Chris amazing wedding at Cescaphe Ballroom and from the first day of planning to the last, I can seriously say, I enjoyed the ride. Bethany and Chris pledged their love in front of a room full of their family and friends and then partied the night away.

Beyond being a bride, I credit Bethany for introducing me to so many things (including some of our own wedding Vendors). I've said it before but will say it again, I'm honored to do what I do because during the course, we are blessed to know some truly amazing couples.

2010 was a year of blessing for POSH and we are happy to announce that there are major changes underway.

So to kick off what we hope you will find to be awesome news, on April 15th, we will post a major announcement about what's in store for us gals over at POSH. To honor those who have stayed along with us for the ride, we are posting the news to our "fans" on first.

We are bursting with excitement and can't wait to share. A long with the announcement is also a giveaway for 25 couples and 25 individuals (yes, 50 people) and will be based on a random drawing from our fans as well.

Joan married Vince

I first introduced you to Joan & Vince here. Since that introduction, there has been a wedding, a move and a friendship.

I remember the first time we met in July 2009. Joan was my type of girl right away. Vince is the type of guy that is quiet because his mind is always working, but once he reaches a certain comfort level, quiet is not a word I would use to describe him. To watch them together is never dull. They are the perfect compliment and their laughter is truly contangious. We spent many days together planning their nuptials, from site visits, to dress fittings, invitation and decor. We laughed over email and in person and at the end of the night on October 1st, I knew I met two people I'd know forever.

Sometimes life just works like that.

Joan & Vince exchanged nuptials at Berlin Baptist Church in front of over 300 of their closest family and friends. The reception was held later in the day at Lucien's Manor. With a lineup of 24 vendors,a rolls royce, a photobooth, a partybus, and the largest bridal party POSH has ever worked with, we knew we were in for a great night!

POSH Destinations: Happy Anniversary

There are many times in my career that I have been brought to tears. If you ask my Assistants, they will confirm that I cry at almost every wedding. When the doors open and we give the cue, the last fluff of the train and hug to my Bride is the moment I cherish the most. It's special, it's private, it's reassuring and I know that our purpose is evident and relevant. We've helped another couple on their way to rejoicing in the biggest day of their lives.

It's an honor and a privilege and one that I am so fortunate to still be a part of after all of these years.

Yesterday marked the celebration of one year of marriage for an amazing couple who committed themselves to each other on the gorgeous beach of Montego Bay, Jamaica. To say that the day was "magical" was an understatement.

Wish Upon A Wedding Philadelphia-Your chance to give back!

One of the most rewarding parts of being in the special events industry, aside from the relationships formed, is the ability to make our client's event dreams come true. As an advocate of giving back, I'm extremely proud to announce our support and involvement in Wish Upon A Wedding Philadelphia.

Wish Upon a Wedding is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization that provides weddings and vow renewals to couples facing terminal illness or other serious life-altering circumstances, regardless of sexual orientation. Often, couples facing such situations do not have the energy, time, money, or resources needed to plan their wedding. The organization takes care of all the details, offering couples a chance to relax and enjoy a very special day while surrounded by the love of their closest family and friends.

We have been extremely fortunate thus far and received a huge amount of support from our local colleagues at the Chapter launch party last month. As we continue to grow the organization, will continue to ask for your support. The best part, rather you are a wedding professional or not, there are many ways to get involved in this organization.

Since there were many people who did not get to join us for the launch party, we are having a meet and greet at Germantown Cricket Club, next Tuesday March 1st, so you can learn more about the organization and how you can get involved!

The Club is located at 411 West Manheim Street Philadelphia, PA 19144 and is truly a remarkable space to tour if you have never been.

This informal meet and greet will be a great time for you to chat with the board members one-on-one to discuss and address any questions you may have. A brief presentation will also be made highlighting some of the work done by other chapters across the country.

I took a short hiatus from the blog to really buckle down and concentrate on life as a Bride and not just a planner. The truth is, during the majority of the year, I spent more time being a planner, than a bride. I wanted to make sure I didn't blink and miss the moments that count.

A Planner plans: Words of Wisdom

As the wedding date approaches Mr. Charming and I have received an ASTRONOMICAL amount of advice. Mostly unsolicited.

We always take notes.

What I've learned over the course of our engagement, and courtship in general, is that your relationship is what you make it. There's no road map to the "perfect" marriage because in my eyes it just doesn't exist. If it does, it's usually just on the surface. The reality is, when you join two lives, there will be differences of opinions and approach, it's what will typically strengthen your relationship over time.

During our last counseling session, our Reverend gave us some real words of wisdom. When you love someone, don't love them to "death". Love them to life. Enjoy the life that you build with them, cherish their existence, pray for their well being more than your own, worship with them and recognize that your time on this earth is not promised.

Mr. Charming and I have had an interesting relationship. Not perfect by any means but the imperfection is what makes him truly charming. You see, I'm marrying the person who makes me feel everyday like I want to be better. For him, myself and my family. The one person who sees beyond the "surface", walks this walk of reality with me everyday and loves me, regardless.

The best advice I've heard so far...Marriage is a constant verb.

A Planner Plans: The dress

I'm not one for superstition. Mr. Charming and I are seeing each other the night before. We're are seeing either other prior to the ceremony. He has seen my dress. Although I actually wanted him to come with me on the shopping trip, he didn't because it's where he drew the line. He would like some element of surprise and I'm ok with that.

But traditional I pretty much am not.

The hunt for the perfect dress was a short one. In fact, it took about 10% of the effort it took to find my shoes.

My first stop on the journey was Country Way Bridals in Haddonfield, NJ. The ladies over there are fabulous and it was where I ultimately selected my bridesmaid dresses. It was there that I met my first love:

I adored her from afar for days. I contemplated the purchase mainly due to budget. Although pricewise she was within my dress budget, logically, I just couldn't wrap my head around the cost of the dress. Something I'd only be wearing for 10 hours of my life. (Says the women with $835 shoes). A little crazy? Maybe. But I couldn't, so I moved on.

The next stops were pretty much all of the local bridal salons within a 30 mile radius and a few on a random trip to New York. Verdict? Ehh.

I found myself running into the same problem. The dreaded bridal sample gown.

A few things never worked in my favor. #1 Height. I'm a little under 5' 2". There is no podium in the world that will make me look like anything other than swallowed in a dress made for someone seven inches taller.

#2. Well endowed. I have a fairly petite frame, but am quite generously endowed in areas. The bottom half of my bottom is comfortable in an 8. If I was interested in seeing how half of the dress looked, I would have struck gold.

#3. Lack of imagination. I'm just not one for imagining how a dress is going to look. I need to actually SEE it to get the feel.

----I wanted to take a minute to let you in on something I forgot to mention at the beginning of the post. I went shopping by myslef. GASP. I know---

After about two weeks time, one Saturday I ventured into Kay Bridal in Maple Shade, NJ. I've passed the salon a million times as it's off of a major highway I frequent. That day I figured, what the heck and went in.

I had an amazing experience. First, there was no rushing. There were many brides there but my saleswoman took great care of me. Two, they had the dress that met all of my requirements:

One shoulder, comfortable, affordable, sophisticated yet not over embellished. Oh...and buttons. I am a sucker for a wedding gown that buttons down the back.

When we entered the fitting room, the consultant took one look at the gown and said-that one is yours. She encouraged me to try on the others that we had already grabbed but reiterated, it's this one. She was right.

So, without further ado, internet meet my Maggie. Fiorella is what I call her.

A Planner Plans: Decor-Um

Blue, purple, ivory, chocolate, gold. Those are the colors of my wedding.

Gasp. I know.

From the very beginning of our planning stages, I knew if there was one area i'd be knee deep into, it was the decor. I love decor. I love details. I love design. So when we started down this road I knew that there would be many times when I'd have to walk myself away from the ledge, aka, world of wedding blogs, and design our wedding, very much like we design for our POSH Touches package.

First step up: choosing my colors. I've often told my brides to "forget that it's a wedding", dumped a ton of swatches on the desk in the studio and told them to pick their favorites. That's pretty much what we did.

Blue. Blue is our favorite color. I knew that blue would be making an appearance in the wedding. Minimally though, more of an accent. Blue represents fluidity. Here is our blue:

Eggplant. I love the richness of this hue of purple. Deep, royal, sexy. As I began my linen selection, I fell in love with a purple Velvet linen. VEL.VET.

Chocolate. Along the lines of the eggplant. Sexy & silky.

Ivory. Bold. I love the look of an all ivory event. Alas, this was not going to work for our reception. Ceremony? Possibly.

I know it sounds a little crazy but in the little land in my head, it works. I envision a space filled with richness, with a sexy, silky, royal, bold vibe.

Gold. Regal. Everyone needs an accent color right?

Color can truly dictate the feel of an even. With a combination of fluidity, richness, sexy, silky, bold, regality and warmth, I think we will be ok. Can't wait to see how it all comes together, 42 days to go

Germantown Cricket Club

Last week I had the privilege of being invited for a private tour of Germantown Cricket Club in Philadelphia. My 10/16 groom Kerry, insisted that I come and see the space as he knew that I would be wowed, and I must say, he did not disappoint.

Founded in 1854, the country club boasts many activities including tennis, squash, swimming, bowling, cricket and fitness, situated on 14 acres in Germantown. On the drive up, I kept saying to myself, there's no way there's anything back here, and then I saw it. A fabulously gated country club, tucked away like a gem in a box. Awesome find.

The Director of Catering & Banquet Services, Chris, took me on a tour of the Clubhouse which accommodates up to 230 people,as well as the Clarke, Manheim and Executive rooms which are perfect for more intimate affairs. The ballroom has an amazing stage and an enclosed brick porch which overlooks the grounds. They also have a little secret tucked away on the lower level-a bowling alley. Bowling!

My favorite part of the tour, the poolside area, where the Club hosts private parties as well. Well, that and the bowling alley. I also had the opportunity to meet the chef personally and sample the menu, which is amazing.

If you're looking for a unique venue in the Philadelphia area, with the feel of the city and the privacy of the suburbs, I'd definitely recommend the club. They have somehow mastered the art of catering to the more intimate side of events and eliminating the cookie cutter feel of many of the local venue.

The point of it all

It's a common occurence at weddings for guests to pull me aside and inquire about how it REALLY feels to be a wedding planner. The first question, is it fun? The second question, is it like the movies?

I've learned to answer this question in the most honest way I know how and over the years, it really hasn't changed.

Is it fun? Not really. But it's one of the most rewarding positions I've ever had the opportunity to hold. I witness the joining of two people, two families, two hearts, under God, under love, united. I'm entrusted with the little details, the family drama, the secrets that would otherwise remain personal. I've watched families blossom and have had the opportunity to maintain friends with many of my couples.

Like the movies? Not hardly. Not ever.

On days like today, when I'm organizing after an amazing wedding and I get the following email from this Saturday's bride which reads:

Hi Isis!

JP and I are here in beautiful Riviera Maya and I just couldn't wait until we got home to say THANK YOU for everything you did for us. Saturday was amazing!! We had the BEST time! Please know that we know how hard you worked and we are very grateful to you for helping us make 11/13 a day we will never forget. We are so, very appreciative!!!!!

As you know...it was a bittersweet day, particularly for me, and it brings me so much happiness to have had the opportunity to see my parents happy. My dad cannot wait to write a Thank You note to you and Maleakia! He LOVED you all!

Not only are you fabulous at your job, but you are an amazing woman. Thank you again and we would love to catch up with you when we get back!

A POSH Event: Larissa marries Julio!

Larissa & Julio are the kind of couple that when you meet them, you love them. I don't know if it's the way they compliment each other personality wise, their level of affection or how they are always cracking jokes, something about them totally draws you in. It's like the real life version of the movie Love Jones. Genuine love.

Throughout the planning process you could definitely see how well Larissa & Julio worked together as a team. She is a master of design and worked hard to make sure no detail was left to chance. Julio was totally my kind of groom. Involved and Enthused.

I shared a small glimpse into this wedding, shot by the talented Euan Henry, and today I'm so excited to show the entire production. Special thanks to The Crowne Plaza, South Jersey Party Supply, Synergetic Sounds & Lighting, DEEJAY007 , GO FESTIVE! and Mum's the Word Floral Shoppe for making what I do, just a bit easier.

A Planner Plans: Food Glorious Food

Ahhh our wedding menu. By far the most anticipated portion of the reception for me.

In an effort to keep our wedding feeling totally authentic, Mr. Charming and I decided to forgo the typical wedding menu (GASP, I know) in pursuit of something a little more us. You see, after so many years in the industry, the thought of another filet, tilapia or chicken with white sauce makes me literally ill. I knew personally, this was not a route that we would travel.

Though our venue offers a wide variety of options when it came down to it, nothing appealed to us. Seriously. NOT.A.THING. So, after thinking about it we came to the conclusion that our wedding dinner will be....

*Drumroll please*

Brunch!

Mr. Charming is a meat and potatoes kind of guy, I'm a sea lover, he's allergic to seafood and the thought of a juicy peace of steak is not as appealing post wedding dress diet. Our compromise was to throw it all out the window and have what we really love...breakfast. After all, if you get married on new year's eve, you kind of can get away with almost anything...Right?

We're calling it our "Almost midnight brunch".

When we announced it to the venue, they were beyond thrilled and created a menu that causes my mouth to water all of these months later. In 52 days our guests will be introduced to our idea of a perfect end to the year:

Breakfast Croissants-Scrambled Eggs on a Croissant with Shaved Grilled Ham
And Havarti Cheese

Grits Station (Homemade grits served with bacon bits, pop-corn shrimp, shredded cheddar and mozzarella, tomatoes, peppers and onions)

Omelet Station (With a Selection of Meats, Cheeses and Vegetables)

French Toast & Waffle Station (Waffles & Cinnamon Raisin Brioche French Toast, Chocolate French Toast, Whole grain toast served with Fresh Fruit, Vermont Maple Syrup, berry compote, bananas foster, roasted apples, chocolate shaving and Whipped Cream )

And for those guests who actually want dinner, we will have a carving station complete with carved beef and salmon with roasted asparagus and tomatoes as well as a pasta station with a variety of pasta options.

Our guests will also enjoy passed mimosas throughout the night as well as our signature drink (in addition to the open bar).

Putting on a bit of weight is normal for a newlywed. It'll be like living in a Mad Men episode as you fall into clichéd roles—you're in charge of laundry; he hammers things. "One day, when our dryer's bell went off to signal that the clothes were done, my husband jumped a foot off the couch and shrieked, 'What was that noise?' That was when I realized he hadn't washed a sock since we'd been married," says Anna W., 28, of Austin, Texas.

Devise a plan, if you'd prefer to split chores 50–50. "Consider which chores each of you doesn't mind doing, and agree to divvy up the responsibilities in a way you both think is fair," says Lombardo. Studies show that when roles are clearly defined and equitable, everyone's happier.

6. THE SHOCK: Even though you'll have two paychecks, you'll still feel broke.
That "we'll have twice as much money" theory? Just an illusion. While you'll save on housing if you weren't living together before (and don't move someplace swankier), you'll also be spending more. For example, that hand-me-down couch was fine for a single gal, but now you'll want a nice sofa in a lovely home that looks as if grown-ups live there.

Don't fret too much, says Haltzman. The investments you're making now will pay off for decades to come, whether they're in furnishings, friendships (throwing dinner parties), or the future (loading up your retirement accounts).

7. THE SHOCK: You won't want to spend every moment with your new husband.
Your spouse may be your best friend, but he won't suddenly become your only friend.

"My husband and I have no problems maintaining individual friendships," says Meghan E., 29, of Richmond, Virginia. "The poor guy shouldn't have to be dragged to every new chick flick simply because he's married to me." She's right. Go out with the girls, and give him nights with his guys. You'll come home and swap stories—and your marriage will be the better for it.

8. THE SHOCK: You'll go to bed mad, even though you vowed not to—ever.
Count on falling asleep fuming at least once that first year.

"It's okay if you're getting nowhere with a compromise," says Lombardo. "Forcing things will just make them worse." So don't be scared of getting some shut-eye. Most likely, you'll both wake up refreshed and ready to make up. Studies show the best predictor of a marriage's success is the couple's ability to repair the relationship after a fight, so as long as you resolve your conflict quickly, you can rest easy.

9. THE SHOCK: Being a wife won't mean you'll instantly have skills worthy of an Iron Chef.
"When I was single, I rarely turned on the stove in my studio apartment. Then I got a husband, new kitchen gear (all those shower gifts!), and my grandmother's take- care-of-your-man attitude," says Molly S., 32, of Baltimore.

Marriage vows are powerful, but they don't include instructions on how to make meatloaf. "I'd rush home from work and try to cook a spread worthy of a magazine photo shoot, but I couldn't take the pressure," says Molly. "Now making dinner might mean opening a bag of salad or a take-out menu," she says. "And we're both okay with that." Or you may find your husband grabbing the apron—now there's a win-win!

10. THE SHOCK: The world will feel like a better place.
Marriage is more than changing your last name and getting a joint checking account.

"Getting married is a declaration to the world that you want to be with each other forever, and a huge sense of security, devotion, peace, and love comes with that," says Lombardo. A Planner plans: Keeping up with the Joneses

One would think that being a professional wedding planner, planning your own wedding would be a breeze. NOT.

The thorn in my side as of late has been the guestlist. Having watched many of my clients go through the struggle of keeping up with invitations and addresses and herds of people, I figured I'd be proactive and send out an email shortly after getting my little sparkly requesting addresses.

Slight problem.

That was about a year ago and apparently for many of my guests, many changes have occurred over the last year. Atleast 10% of our invitations now require replacement addresses (yay for the booming economy and the successes of house hunting) and though I am thrilled with all of the new locations we'll have to visit post wedding, for the purpose of invitations this is not a good thing.

Lucky for me, we have two of the most amazing vendors on our team LeTrice of LePenn Designs and Kathleen Turnure of Elegant Hand Calligraphy for all Occasions. These two ladies are two of the most patient women I've ever met. I've been fortunate enough to correspond electronically with both over the planning process, especially LeTrice. Over the last few months we have exchanged hundreds of emails regarding changes to our stationary and most recently the need for additional....everything.

As we prepare for invitations to hit the stands (smile) tomorrow, I've learned a valuable lesson. One last reminder to your guests to inform them if their addresses have changed, will not hurt. Lucky for us, LeTrice sent extra blank envelopes and Kathleen was prepared to step into action when we needed more.

Just wanted to send a quick congrats to the fab duo behind Entwined Studio, Matt and Angie, who were recently featured in New York Magazine. Not only do they have an amazing eye for detail, they are seriously two of the nicest people i've ever come across.

When searching for a professional photographer, a small component of the qualification is their ability to shoot. The larger component,the personality and the sense of ease that you have when working together. When you have accomplished fulfilling both of these, you're sure to have a winning combination. Mr. Charming and I are so delighted to have them document our wedding day.

A Planner Plans: Sweets for my sweet

Confession time. I am OVER wedding cake. Seriously over it.

I think after a certain number of years of exposure, just like anything, the novelty wears off. For me, that is the story of me and cake. I can't stand it. I can appreciate it, but give me a Viennese table full of brownies, cookies and pies and my heart is content.

So when it came to the great dessert debate, I realized Mr. Charming and I had a huge difference of opinion. Mr. Charming loves cake. Not just any cake but chocolate and not your average chocolate but roll over with your stomach cramping for ganache overdose chocolate. For him there was no other option.

I however, dreamed of s'mores. Roasting marshmallows, graham crackers and a bite sized morsel of chocolate along with a variety of cheesecakes.

Insert problem.

We arranged for our venue to offer s'mores but after months of consideration, decided it was just too messy.

So it was back to square one. Since I was obviously losing the battle on cake, I compromised and agreed to a small cake. 2 tiers, nice and simple, or so I thought.

I contacted Jen of Hudson Cakery soon after agreeing to serving cake at the wedding. Jennifer and I worked together on Bethany & Chris' wedding and I really just adored her. When we started developing options for the cake, she made it very well known, the possibilities were endless. Cake soon became yet another thing on the ever growing to do list.

This past week, Jen made a house call and brought with her what I affectionately refer to as sin on a spoon. Seriously. For tasting purposes, we were given a chocolate cake with oreo filling, chocolate chip cake with chocolate filling and an almond cake with vanilla filling, all with vanilla buttercream frosting.

I.DIE.

I seriously sat grinning ear to ear and confessed that I was totally wrong. Not only did we HAVE to have cake, we had to have lots of cake.

Our final selections, chocolate cake with a layer of chocolate and a layer of peanut butter and almond cake with a layer of cherries and a layer of crushed almonds. Add to that a variety of cake balls including cheesecake, red velvet cake, carrot cake with cream cheese icing and s'mores cake, and you have yourself a very happy Mr. Charming and #Giddyplannerbride.

I was wrong and I'm glad I was. Not only am I now looking forward to the cake, I'm now practicing a serious amount of restraint to not eat the entire sample. They were huge. In a good way!

A Planner Plans: Cold Feet

Selecting my dress was easy. Way to easy. I went dress shopping by myself, narrowed it down to three options and then returned to the two salons with my mother, future mother in law and my maid of honor and anxiously waited for their approval. Easy breezy.

What was not so easy was what I would wear on my feet. I searched for months for the perfect shoes. Yes, months. I went to the Nordstrom near me so many times, I started making friends with the workers. I must've tried on every stiletto within a 20 mile radius that I could find in a shade of blue. You see, if I knew nothing else, I knew that my something "blue" would be on my feet.

After exhausting all possibilities both locally and on the web, I eventually gave up. Mr. Charming and the rest of the world would just have to accept that I was defeated by the possibility of shoes that only lived in my dreams. That was until I saw these:

Uggs Bailey Button Deep Cobolt Blue. I DIE.

You see, second to my obsession with jeans, runs my obsession with Uggs. I love my Uggs. Wear them as much as I can all year round. Yes, I'm one of those people. I love how comfy they feel, how warm I stay and I feel they are just the perfect compliment to a pair of skinny jeans or a cute winter dress. When I saw these in Nordstrom I took a double take.

Could I get away with Uggs under my formal gown? Would everyone think I was insane?

I decided to keep looking but something in me always brought me back to that same place. One day, I took Mr. Charming to the mall and asked his opinion. In typical Charming fashion he said "Who cares what other people say. You like them, I like them on you and it's about us." Just like that, I was $199 poorer.

Since my purchase I haven't exactly received a ton of support on my Uggs decision. My mother actually begged me not to wear them so much to the point that I picked up these beauties, as a backup:

Though they are cute, something about them just doesn't feel "genuine" to me. Even with the replacements in hand, I still think back to my Uggs tucked under my gown, keeping me cozy and offering a little since of normalcy on an otherwise intense day.

I haven't actually decided which pair will make their debut on the big day. I will probably need until then to decide.

This weekend was a huge weekend for POSH!

Yesterday we had the honor of working with Valerie & Frank and Jennifer & David. Collectively, the weddings included 580 guests, 19 band members; 2 lighting companies, 4 photographers; 2 videographers, draping installations, 6 limousines, 3 motorcoaches, 1000s of candles and a combined POSH staff of 9. It was quite the evening.

Today on 10.10.10 undeniably the most popular wedding day of the year, we have the honour of coordinating an amazing wedding for one of my favorite couples of the season. I have been working with this lovely couple for almost a year now and look forward to seeing their vision come to life.

A Planner Plans: Green Eyed Monsters

We were unable to post on Friday because we were coordinating the wedding of our amazing couple Joan & Vincent. Now that their wedding is complete and they are luxuriating on the beach in Mexico, we are a bit back to normal (until this weekend's three weddings).

I've hesitated to right this post. Everything in social media tells you to remain positive, not to focus on negative, not to "bash" vendors or downplay products. The reality is however, people sometimes suck.

Yesterday I cried.

I consider myself a strong person. My greatest accomplishment, next to Chris, is never settling for no. I graduated with an MBA because someone challenged me to. I dual majored the summer before my Senior year to see if I could. At 23, I purchased my first home and seven years ago started this business which I love. I pride myself on being strong and yet I cried.

Hard tears.

I've told myself a million times not to let the planning get to me. Our wedding planning has taken a bit of a back seat as my priority and focus is assisting my clients. Mr. Charming and I work on limited time. We've worked hard, very hard, to ensure our guests remember the experience at our wedding. The emotions of the day. The joy that we share. That they get a true glimpse into our reality.

When the green eyed monster reared it's evil head into OUR situation, I found out that I am normal. Just plain normal.

I see it a million times with my Brides and I finally became that girl. With my couples, it's easy. I play defense. You will NOT contribute unnecessary stress to my brides. That scenario is easy. In my own life, not so much. I let people "get to me" and try to rationalize it when the truth is, people sometimes suck.

I can not offer much in the way of comfort, but wanted to let other Brides in similar situations know that with wedding planning, you find out who you're true supporters are. You find out who values you and who genuinely supports your relationship. It's a blessing and a curse. The good thing is, in the end, the only people left in the room will be the ones on your team. Rest assured.

I recently posted the phrase on facebook and today I've decided that like my good colleague Mark Kingsdorf, it's going up on my wall.

A PLANNER PLANS: I WANNA SEX YOU UP!

Totally inappropriate title, but the perfect way to introduce what I am anticipating will be one of the greatest pieces of our wedding experience, the music.

One of the most obvious passions that Mr. C and I share as a couple is our love for music. It’s always playing. We love a mix of old school r&b, soul, big band and a little bit of country. We’ve spent many of Sundays watching videos on YouTube of performances from some of the industry greats and belting out the lyrics as a team. We are dorks. Certifiable dorks.

It was three years ago that I first had the pleasure of speaking with Brian Lizzi. You know those people that it takes about 5 seconds of speaking to, to feel like you’ve known them forever? Brian is that guy.

I was doing vendor confirmations for the Fanelle Wedding and our conversation ended something like this:

Brian: "Have you ever heard our band play?”
Me: "No, I have not had the fortune".
Brian: "Well, I can promise you this. You will be angry with me at the end of the night".
Me-(Totally perplexed)"why"?
Brian: "Because our band is going to be so good, no one is going to want to go home".

Well, I took what Brian said with a grain of salt because, well you know, all vendors try to sell to the wedding planner/ It’s just what they do. True to his word, the end of the magnificent night came and went and after four straight hours of watching approximately 200 people up and at it all night, I was impressed. I was also sold. That would be my wedding band.

Fast forward a few years later. Shortly after we booked the venue I had a candid conversation with Mr. Charming. Of course, this one was going to be a bit more difficult. You see, when you date a wedding planner, there are some things you pick up by nature. One of which most people would assume. A band is WAY more expensive than the average dj. To make matters worse, a phenomenal band…is double that. My first attempt at the band conversation was pretty much a bust. Not only did Mr. Charming want a dj, his high school friend is a well known professional dj that has been on the radio and doing celebrity events for years. After failing miserably at that conversation, I decided to change my approach. I asked Mr. Charming if he would go with me to a complimentary showcase, followed by a lunch date with yours truly. He couldn’t resist. We head out to our planned excursion and low and behold... traffic. Traffic=late arrival. No sweat I thought, there is no way they will go on first. There are seven acts. We get in and wouldn’t you know it, there is my band, doing their last song of the set.

EPIC FAIL.

Since we were already there, we agreed to just stay and listening to the other bands that CTO had to offer. Mr. Charming had a great time, we sang along, we took notes, it was awesome. He still hadn’t heard MY band though. True to form, Brian came over at the end of the set and introduced himself to Mr. Charming. I explained to him that we missed the band and he introduced us to Carmen, the owner. Carmen and Brian then escorted us to the private listening room where we watched the band’s latest performance on the big screen. Mr. Charming was sold.

In 98 days I will get to hear my favorite band in my favorite room with my favorite people and my better half and I’m bursting with excitement. Yes, the expense is astronomical in comparison, but like anything else, when looking at your budget, you must prioritize, and we did. We’re pretty sure there will not be any “I wanna sex you up” playing on our big day, but I know that Brian will keep his promise to me, a promise he made three years ago, to give the guests an experience they will never forget.

The Timeline

As we prepare ourselves for the close of our season with seven weddings left for the year, I've been knee deep in timelines. Make that waist deep.

In the area I'm pretty well known for my timelines. Upon initial glance, they look utterly ridiculous. Seriously, I know this. I always distribute them to the vendors with the caveat to scan for your name and confirm only those items. An average event timeline for us is about 9 pages and can go anywhere up to fifteen. A few years ago, I had a limo driver, whom apparently provided transportation for quite a few of our couples, come up to me and say I always smile when I see your timeline, I know I'm working with you and exactly what we're going to be doing.

Mission accomplished.

We've developed our timeline so that everyone, every single player on our vendor team, knows what is going on that day. Though we are there to facilitate the day, I figure maybe, just maybe, it would help to have an overview of the day that everyone can have access to, just in case. I know I would appreciate it if I was the photographer knowing that the videographer is arriving half an hour before my scheduled arrival, who they are and where they are going first, just in case I want to coordinate with them. I also know that the venue coordinator probably would like to know if they florist plans on coming for setup earlier than initially anticipated and will be making multiple trips during the day and grandmom's corsage will be left on the second trip, just to make my job easier.

I know I'm one of the few in the area, probably the industry, who do things this way and it's totally ok with me. I've seen some of my colleagues timelines and they range about 2-3 pages and I.Die. As a coordinator, it is a touchy topic though because you don't want to offend anyone or make them believe that you think they are incapable of executing a perfect event. It's what we specialize in. Instead, the vendors that actually get it, appreciate that they do not have to coordinate the "behind the scenes" as it is in writing exactly what the couple expects and they are able to confirm it is what they deliver. It's a win, win for all.

So, if you are preparing a timeline absent of a wedding coordinator,first call me we'd love to help. If that doesn't work out, here are the must haves for your document:

Name/Contact number for all parties involved
Arrival time (and conclusion time) for all of your vendors
Pickup/Drop Off locations for transportation
Prepping locations for the bride and groom
Ceremony program order
Reception timeline (general) including names with phonetic spellings and songs for formalities
Name of individual responsible for taking items home
Contact individual name and number on the day of.
Also include with your timelines copies of all the day's must haves as last pages. This includes directions to your venue, floorplan, checklists, etc.

A Planner Plans: Stand by me

Will you be my At the alter and thru the craziness of wedding planning, friend, confidant and by my side girl? AKA bridesmaid?

Those were the words that began the email which I sent to the nine wonderful women that will stand beside me. Yes, you read correctly N-I-N-E.

I tried for the longest time to come up with a cute way to ask my bridesmaids to be a part of our wedding party and it was a major fail. I know these ladies. We've grown up together, laughed together, cried together and there was no card (hand made or store bought) that would ever be able to express how fortunate I feel to know them all. I used to host an annual girl's night out and invite all the girls to come into New York, stay at a hotel my treat, and go out for a night on the time. They are those type of friends.

Four of the nine I've known my entire life. We are family. I have one sister but was raised amongst many first cousins, close in age, close enough to feel more like sisters. I've known 2 of the remaining five girls for 20+ years and 1 for 18+. These women have been my very best friends for as long as I can remember. The next of the ladies, I proudly stood beside as her Maid of Honor one week from today. We met in college but quickly became the best of friends. Mr. Charming's sister rounds out the ninth addition of the group.

My posse roles deep! (Sorry I couldn't resist).

I quickly realized that I became the Bride I advise my clients not to be. To be honest, it's partially Mr. Charming's fault. Remember I mentioned he was an athlete? Well his friendships span 30 years and he was inviting EVERYONE to be a part of our day. Then reality struck. Large bridal party=Large expense and contrary to what I'd like to believe, we are not made out of money.

There would need to be some tweaking.

We decided (ok, I decided)early on in the planning process that we will not get married at the foot of a traditional aisle. This union is about our family and we want them to play a very active role in the entire event. Instead, we will either get married "in the round" or in a square configuration, surrounded by the people we love the most. My major concern with our large group, (we are at 20 including us) is that having 25% of the attending population, standing in a tiny space would look utterly ridiculous. But being in the wedding party they will obviously walk down, because that's just what you do.

Our compromise? Everyone will enter (my fab girls escorted by the groomsmen) and at the "foot" of the aisle separate and go to their seats. They will stand remain standing until I enter and be seated with the rest of the guests. Dilemma 1 solved.

Issue #2. Floral costs. So.... 9 girls + 2 mothers + 9 groomsmen + 2 father figures + 2 ushers= ALOT of flowers. I always knew that I was not totally wowed by the idea of bridesmaids bouquets. Don't get me wrong they are lovely, but nothing hurts my heart more than setting them aside shortly after I remove them from the girls lined up during my couple's first dance, to go keep the cake company. I just knew I could not do it. I haven't exactly figured out if I will be substituting another object in the absence of the florals,I'm considering these fluerette cocktail rings (picture below) but for the time being, I have total faith in my ladies being able to keep their hands occupied during the ceremony. I've never understood the logic anyway. Dilemma #2 solved.

Issue #3. Rehearsal Dinner. 30 people. Need I say more? Luckily Mama Charming has graciously offered to take care of this and we happily accepted. Dilemma #199 solved.

A Planner Plans: Get over yourself

These are the words that little voice in my head has played over and over and over again.

I design for a living. We plan events but we design desires. I have studied how to cultivate a vision into a day that is cohesive and "pretty". We're taught to soothe the senses with every event. So when it's your own the pressure is turned beyond high to produce.

The reality however, is this is not a production. It's our wedding. It's not a show stopping, must see, scalp tickets to type of event. If we didn't have all the "pretty" the emotion and the general feel of the day SHOULD remain the same. I have to remind myself of that on a daily basis. Some days are easier than others.

I want all the lovelies. I want to break out all the newness in my industry so my guests jaws will hit the floor. The truth is they are going to be awed regardless, because our wedding will not be like any they have seen. Breaking the bank won't make that any more or less true.

So, I have a deal with Mr. Charming. Our wedding our way. If something does not seem "authentic" to who we are, we pass no matter how tempting. This was the most ingenious idea EVER. I so wish I came up with it myself.

Once I realized I needed to get over "myself" and who I felt the industry dictates I as a bride needed to be, the wheels began to turn.

With a little assistance from my amazing colleague and friend, LeTrice Penn of LePenn Designs we were able to develop a "theme" for the wedding. I use the word "theme" very loosely as we are not doing matchy matchy in the least. Just like I tell my clients, I encourage couples to develop a theme so that they stay on track when the planning wheels go astray. For POSH clients, we've used themes that span the length of the spectrum, with my favorite being "texture". Our theme will be "The Tale of Two Cities".

When we sat down to figure out what it was that Mr. Charming and I had a passion for (besides each other of course) what kept popping in our minds were our birthplaces. I am a Die.Hard. New yorker. I breathe congestion and confusion, chaos and hustle and bustle. I love the bright lights, dollar cabs and a good meal at 1:00am. I understand a sandwich is a "hero" not a hoagie and live for clubbing on a weekday. Mr. Charming on the other hand is a total Philadelphian, bless his heart.

When trying to decide on a theme and feeling desperate for options, Le'Trice suggested that we bring in what we love the best. We will be incorporating touches of both cities throughout the reception and the ceremony, while trying not to suffocate people with too much of a good thing.

Our guests first clue to our theme would be the introduction to our event or the save the date.

The Philadelphia half of the equation was easy to incorporate. We are getting married here and you better believe a cheesesteak, a pretzel and a great cream soda will make an appearance at somepoint during the day.

The New York portion was going to take a little work.

We met up with our phenominal photographers Matt & Angie of Entwined Studios. I seriously love them. Seriously. We scheduled our engagement session in the dead of winter because, #1, there's nothing like New York in the winter and since we're having the wedding in Philadelphia, we had to mirror the season in my home. Number 2, snow+cold= a great excuse for a pair of jeans, lots of snuggling and my beloved Uggs. Here are a few shots from the day:

Happy Anniversary Mr. & Mrs. Gee

Farrah is my kind of girl. Fun, loving and remarkably talented. Her husband is equally as fun and a politician in the state. When you add these two together, the combination is a good kind of scary.

I still can't believe it's been 3 years since we helped this couple plan their remarkable event. The evening ceremony took place on the stairs/landing of the Trenton War Memorial and the bride took her walk to her new groom down a candlelit aisle. After the ceremony, the guests (including some secret service agents, local policitians and nba players) entered the backstage of the Memorial, 4,000 sq feet which we transformed into an intimate all-white lounge atmosphere. Drinks, dessert and dancing took place for hours to follow.

I still remember Farrah's reaction to seeing the room for the first time. We were in transition of changing our name from PureNSimple to POSH and when we opened the doors she hugged me and said "now this is a POSH event!". I never forgot that feeling and the floorplan of Farrah & James' fabulous dessert reception hangs in the studio as a constant reminder to stay "true" to who you are, even when it's outside of the norm.

Congratulations to three years Farrah & James and may you celebrate many, many more!

A Planner Plans: Decisions, Decisions

My mother is one of nineteen. My father, the youngest of 5. I easily have 50+ first cousins, 10 of which I spent almost everyday around. My parents love to entertain, (I'm pretty sure that's where my event gene was cultivated). Mr. Charming was an athlete the majority of his life, so is his brother. We are social butterflies times 10.

Slight problem.

My venue, after the inclusion of our 7 piece band and their massive stage, holds 120 MAX. Yes, that's right. One hundred twenty people.

We had a few options, the larger ballroom which was also available that evening, will hold upwards of 600. I've actually assisted with a wedding there with just around that guest count. It was huge! While the space is tempting, having a room that can accommodate 600 people would cause quite the problem. Why? Well, Daddy Petrie is the entertainer of all entertainers. He LOVES to invite people over. Remember the episode of the Cosby show where Theo graduated and Mr. Cosby brought lawn chairs? THAT.IS.MY.LIFE. So, as tempting as it would have been, I knew that opening those gates was one route we would not take. So, smaller ballroom it was.

When Mr. Charming and I first discussed this option we both laughed because the thought of only having 120 people (remember 50+adult first cousins for myself alone)was ludicrous. I've hosted barbeque's with almost that many people. But our wedding is no bbq and we refuse to become the "free" entertainment option for new years eve.

There had to be rules. Tight rules.

So here's how we cut our list (future brides and groom's take note).

1. If we didn't not know your real first & last name and only referred to you by a childhood nickname, you didn't make the cut.
2. If we hadn't seen you physically in 2 years, you didn't make the cut.
3. Adults were only allowed to bring dates if they were married or engaged (exceptions not even for the bridal party as these are people we've known atleast 20 years..more on that to come).
4.No children, or tweens. As a matter of fact, we restricted the age limit to 21 years or older. Even though 70% of our guests are from out of town, we felt our wedding just wasn't child friendly, and retained the services of the Wedding Sitters to watch the littles ones.

With these rules in hand for us, we gave each set of parents 15 invites each and split the remaining 90 (ok I took 50) between us two.

Mission accomplished.

When we first set out on this task, it seemed really far fetched. How do you not offend your great aunt twice removed? Your co-worker from 10 years ago? Your tweeps (twitter peeps) or the 2000 facebook fans who are so excited for your planning? You stay focused. We realized that if we wouldn't normally invite you to a $130 dinner, our wedding was certainly not the time to start-that logic helped alot.

This was the first of many, many difficult decisions to come and we made it through. Alive. A little bruised (not all of our guests were delighted with our choices) but together.

A POSH Event-Kelly marries Vincent-Part II

We last left off here...

After the full mass, the couple was off to the venue for pictures. When I say that this couple had a dream team of vendors, they truly did. It was raining during the ceremony. HARD. The rain continued during cocktail hour but neither Mary Quinn or Louis Anthony were the least bit frayed. We were outside, in the rain, umbrellas drawn and at one point we giggled b/c it looked like the paparrazi was in full effect.

The florals at the wedding were in a word stunning. Nancy Saam Floral Design did a great job and they are just the nicest people to work with. Guests grooved to the tunes of Opera3000 and Claudia and her team at Laurel Creek Country Club provided an awesome spread as always. At the end of the night, we opened up the candy buffet and I witnessed, for the first time, an Italian Streamer Dance.

It was truly an amazing night.

A Planner Plans: The Venue

Picking a venue was one of the easiest decisions in the planning process thus far. Shortly after "I will" and realizing we were not leaving the states, I knew the location.

Last Memorial Day weekend I had the honor of planning the wedding of Jennifer & Colby . As I stood in the room and watched the couple do their first dance as husband and wife, I whispered to my Assistants "If I ever get married, this is where it will be". Fast forward 19 months from that date and that wish will come true.

As a planner, you're exposed to so many phenominal venues in the area. From large to small, extravagent to modern and chic. You know the ins and outs of every single location down to the state of the restrooms. How's a girl to choose?

The feel we are going for with our wedding is more relaxed, more contemporary and more us. I am by no means a traditional bride and I definitely struggle with incorporating the traditional elements with a more modern twist, as do many of my couples. The Hyatt offers the perfect compromise for a chic and convenient location accessible to many of our guests, 70% who will be travelling for the event.

More than anything, I want our wedding to be honest. An honest reflection of our love. Honest reflection of our committment and an honest portrayal of who we are as individuals and who we aspire to be as a couple. I enjoy understated sophistication. I love anything from bcbg, a good pair of jeans and a comfy pair of uggs. Mr. Charming is definitely laid back. He's an athlete by nature and just a very genuine "good guy". Stuffy is not us, neither is overstated and over the top.

This is the actual ballroom where our wedding ceremony and reception will take place. I can't WAIT to incorporate POSH "touches" in the space!

A POSH Event: Kelly married Vincent- Part I

I gave a little glimpse into this wedding and I'm so elated to share the details with you. With the rain clouds hovering this morning, it seemed like this October wedding would be the perfect way to bring some sunshine into the day. Oh internet, I promise, this one is going to be good. So good that thanks to Mary Quinn, who I just adore, we will have to show this wedding in a three part series

From our first meeting I knew Kelly was my type of bride. Calm, yet bubbly and totally in tune with the fact that for the party they wanted to throw, they needed a little assistance. We hit it off instantly. Shortly thereafter, I got an email, they were moving. Not just a little move...picking up and headed to Miami, as in Florida.

We spent the next few months corresponding over email. Though Kelly & Vinnie retained our deluxe services, we also assisted with decor and rentals. Their request was simple, they wanted to throw an amazing party. Big Italian family + gorgeous Church + amazing venue=Success!

The morning of the wedding Kelly was the perfect vision of relaxed. Her and the girls got their hair and makeup done at Bernard's and then headed over to her parent's home to finish getting ready.

The guys got ready at the Westin Hotel and First Class Limo then escorted them over to the Church.

Shortly thereafter, a vintage 1954 Rolls Royce arrived for Kelly and we were off to Trinity Episcopal in Moorestown for the ceremony.

I loved their Church. I've been in some pretty amazing Churches but the architecture in Trinity is truly breathtaking. What I love most is that they preserve the sanctity of the ceremony. There is no flash photography allowed in the Church. No movement. You truly witness a marriage performed in the purest form of religion and it is amazing to witness.

A planner plans: Weathering the storm

I interrupt our regurlarly scheduled update to bring you a dose of reality. My reality.

Over the last 18 months, I've experienced the death of 6 loved ones. My mother has lost 3 sisters, 1 brother in law, a nephew and a cousin. My grandmother experienced 2 strokes and my father was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

IT.HAS.NOT.BEEN.EASY.

With the length of most engagements averaging a year+, it is quite common to experience a tragedy of some sort. All of a sudden what seemed like the happiest time in your life is cut short and replaced by tears and sorrow. You know that the wedding is approaching but somehow things just don't seem the same.

I share this sentiment with many of my couples currently planning.

What I often advise is to find a special way to still include that individual in your day. By special, I mean personal. The popular options are a memorial table, a memorial candle and a note in the program but the act does not have to be one of outward expression. For some this does not work however. Simply carrying a token representing this person on your bouquet, including their favorite flower in your centerpieces or sharing a quiet moment with your fiance during the day to acknowledge their spirit, are also options to consider.

While it saddens me to know I will not get to share the day with people that have contributed to who I am as an individual, that I won't dance with my uncle as we often did, or laugh with my favorite aunt, I am reminded that we will celebrate with a room full of people that love and support us and that the memory of those not present physically is still very present in our hearts.

We have chosen to hang 8 butterflies from the ceiling during the ceremony representing each individual we hold dear to us and the evolution of their life. We are not making an announcement to their significance nor are we looking to sadden the mood of such a joyous occasion. To those in attendance it will look like another beautiful decor item, to us however, they represent our loved ones looking over us as we recite lifelong promises to one another and to me it really helps. Alot.

One Hundred Forty Days.

It glared at me. THE countdown courtesy of project wedding that popped up this morning when I looked at my cell phone.

I looked again, it couldn't be. 140 days? What happened to the other 225? Seems like you blink and the year of planning is summarized into an incredible 8 hour day that you'll never forget.

As our date approaches, I must admit, I get to be pretty antsy. As my planner friend Lakendra Kennedy would say, "Isis, you're a planner first!". These 4 words have kept me from the deep end many of times. The reality is, I've been a planner way longer than I've been a contender for the wife spot. I SHOULD know better; I SHOULD prioritize better. THIS SHOULD BE EASY.

The greater reality, I'm human.

My clients, past and present have been so incredibly supportive of the engagement. Many of my brides ask "is it any easier?" and I tell them...not hardly. When you're a Vendor getting married, you face an entirely different set of stresses. Managing budgets with vendor relationships, not wanting to offend anyone, expectations of your colleagues, your guests and what you think you should be able to provide in terms of experience.

The double whammy is having it on New Year's eve. Big date=BIGGER expectations. Mr. Charming does not drink alcohol. Any other date for our wedding and we would have been skating on a dry reception possibly beer/wine (which I think is a great option by the way), but noo...someone had to have the grand idea to throw a grand party on a grand day, usually associated with lots of alcohol. So, open bar it is because after all, what kind of new year's party is it without a little bubbly (or so i've been reminded)?

One Hundred Forty Days. One Hundred twenty guests. One seven peice band. 2 photographers. 3 videographers. 1 florist. 2 lighting technicians. 1 invitation designer. 4 graphic designers. 2 linen companies. 2 rental companies. 19 bridal party members.

1 million more decisions over the next 3,350 hours.

Overwhelming? A little.

I reminded myself that at the end of the day, the truth is, this is really about 1 girl, loving 1 boy and the blessings and prayers of the family and friends surrounding them. It's about 1 unit. What doesn't take place, will never be missed. What doesn't go smoothly, will be rejoiced regardless. This one moment has taken a lifetime to get to. One hundred forty more days...I can handle it.

I felt the need to write this post because given my current status, I sit proudly on both sides of the fence (or as my twitter hash states, I am a #giddyplannerbride). I recognize this blog is followed by colleagues, clients and potential clients and I am hoping that what I say resignates with you all.

As a vendor, I make it a top priority to respond to my couples in a timely fashion. That's actually one of reasons that couples retain our services, as compared to some of the other local Coordinators. As a couple however, you have a responsibility as well. It is common courtesy to respond to the vendors you have for consideration, in a timely fashion.

The industry has taken many turns since I first entered it. We live in a virtual society where "tweets" and "bbms" have replaced real human contact. Where telephone calls are made in the event of an emergency and email is the norm. I get it.

What I don't understand however, is when entitlement became par for the course. Planning is a very hectic, though enjoyable experience. When you're meeting with multiple vendors and trying to match your needs with your budget, personalities, expectations, that too can become extremely difficult to manage.

As a couple, while it's not your responsiblity to go out of your way and document why you are not hiring a vendor, I would strongly suggest that you atleast communicate whether you are or are not. Many vendors offer a complimentary initial meeting and extend a right to refusal allowing an extended period of time for your decision to be made. In the interim, business goes on and opportunities present themselves that at times do conflict with other scheduled events. The key to having a good vendor is that during your experience, you feel as though your wedding is the only one they are overseeing, the reality is, it's not.

I know "breaking up" with an individual that you really hit it off with is difficult. When perusing the wedding blogs, I often see brides asking each other "how do I tell the xxx we're not going to go with them...I really liked them" and I do a double take. It's simple, just do it. It's ok, really it is. A successful person in the industry understands that they are not the only vendor you will meet with and at the end of the day, you will have to do what's best for you. Always remember, be it the wedding or life in general, treat people the way you would want to be treated and things will naturally fall into place.

A POSH Engagement: Joan & Vince

From the moment I met these two, we hit it off. Not just planner/couple hit it off, but long life friends hit it off. The energy from this couple is truly electric. They laugh alot, smile alot and have a way of speaking in a silent language only they can hear.

We began on their journey of planning a elegant, fun and memorable wedding for 350 of their closest friends and family about a year ago. I am so excited for their October Nuptials!

A POSH Event: Edna married Derrick (Reception)

Happy Friday!

As the week is coming to a close, I thought what better way to celebrate the weekend than with a little cheer.

Edna and Derrick's reception took place immediately after their ceremony in the ballroom at Scotland Run. Guest were greeted by a feast of food selections, everything from waffles to salads-the spread was truly amazing (and delicious!). Morning or not, we definitely had a room full of dancers and Centerstage Entertainment kept the party going.

At the end of the reception the bartender came over and told us in his 13 years at the facility, it was the best wedding he'd ever worked!

A Planner Plans: The Date

The date of an event is so critical in determining the style, location, and overall type of event you will be having. For us,the decision was one of the easiest we've had thus far.

The conversation went a little like this...

Me: "Honey, have you thought about when you want to get married?"
Mr. Charming "We can do it whenever you like..."
Me: "Well, if we do destination..."
Mr. Charming: (with a look of total confusion) "We can't do destination, I want to make sure that the people closest to me attend. I'm thinking Philadelphia".
Me: (slightly saddened): Well, if we do it locally, it has to be in the winter. I currently have weddings until October 23rd and need atleast 1-2 months to focus on ours. That puts us in December."
Mr Charming: "A December wedding? With the holidays. I don't know..."
Me: "Not just a December wedding, a New Year's Eve wedding".
Mr. Charming: (Not totally convinced) "New Year's Eve?"
Me: "Yes sweetie, it's perfect. Exactly one year from the date you proposed, we will get to celebrate the biggest day of the year surrounded by all those we love. EEEEEK!"
Mr. Charming (cracking a smile): "Sounds good to me!"

And there you have it ladies and gentleman. The 60 second exchange which took place to decide on our date. We're very fortunate to have a solid booking and amazing wedding season spanning from January-November at POSH this year and I know that I had to give my current Clients 100% of me to avoid feeling guilt during my own personal planning process.

Mr. Charming and I love the holidays. Between November-December 31st, we celebrate 8 family birthdays (including his and mine), Thanksgiving and Christmas. We both have strong ties to our families and feel fortunate to have fostered friendships in excess of 20 years that are now extended family. We recognize that a holiday wedding isn't ideal for all. To add to the mix, NYE falls on a Friday this year and we're having an evening ceremony and adult only reception.

While it may not be convenient for all of our guests, we hope that those that are able to attend experience a magical night, witnessing the love we share for each other and for them. It's like I always tell my couples, the goal of a great wedding is for your guests to walk away feeling like they've learned a little more about your relationship. The foundation of our relationship is faith, family and friends. Celebrating on one of the biggest holidays of the year, is an added bonus.

Besides, when you are guaranteed a view like this, how could you resist?

Celebrity Sightings

Unless you've been living under a rock (and even there too I would imagine somehow, some media outlet found you) you are more than aware that this weekend proved to be a big deal in hollywood with a number of celebrity weddings.

First up, the Clinton mega-extravaganza. I personally loved Chelsea's style and her classic yet modern look in her beautiful gown. Her bouquet, a lush arrangment of...wait for it...gardenia!

While Chelsea was definitely a paparrazi favorite this weekend, I rejoiced in the wedding of one of my favorite singers, Alicia Keys. I loved the piece that adorned her head and the serenity of their location. (Reminds me of my recent destination wedding-more on that to come shortly...)

Congratulations to all the couples who exchanged nuptials this weekend. I hope your day was everything you dreamed of and more!

A POSH Event: Edna married Derrick (Ceremony)

Edna and Derrick were more like family than most of our couples. Mainly because I met Edna (and Derrick actually) in 2008 when she was in her sister Sheilla's wedding.

When Edna and Derrick first arrived at the studio, their request was simple: Beautiful, colorful and fun. They wanted wanted full coordination of a brunch reception and a out of this world party. We assembled a superb vendor team and I think the couple would agree, they definitely got their wish!

Having previously worked with the family of the bride, I knew we were in for a great time. What I wasn't expecting, was how involved Derrick was. Derrick and I would often attend vendor meetings and consult on wedding items in Edna's absence. It was great working with an active groom.

The ceremony was to be a true reflection of their life and family. Reverend Melissa Brown officiated the ceremony on the beautiful grounds of Scotland Run Golf Course where Kelly and her team worked their magic and the vows were recited in both english and spanish. The groom entered the outdoor space to Alicia Keys "unthinkable" and to say there wasn't a dry eye in the space, is an understatement.

It's been seven months since I first embarked on my own engagement journey, and let me tell you, sitting on both sides of planning table is interesting to say the least. I find myself sharing many of the same emotions as my couples-excited, nervous, anxious and at times how shall I say..."extra". I can truly empathize now the need to go above and beyond for what you are constantly reminded of as the biggest day of your life.

Nevertheless, my fiance "Mr. Charming" and I agreed that this day is about us. Not posing for the camera, pretending for the crowd, or doing anything that even remotely felt artificial. Instead, we are planning an initimate reception for our closest family and friends on the biggest celebration day of the year (New year's eve) in one of the greatest cities in the world.

It's been such an interesting ride, I'm excited to share the details with you all.

Oh blog, how I've missed thee...let me count the ways!

If you are a usual follower of the blog you'll realize that I've taken a hiatus for a few months. I wish I had a good excuse, but the truth is between client weddings, expanding the destination arm of POSH, the studio redesign, new staffing, planning my own wedding and a little thing called life, I've really been swamped.

I'm often conflicted. Should I blog just for the sake of blogging? Even if it's not quality? I realize these days "blogging" can make you look busier than you are, more educated than you are, and like an expert in a world where the reality is your peers are actually WORKING and focusing quality customer service to existing clients.

As I peek out the window, look at the massive amounts of rain flooding the area and reflect on the last few months, I realize that I really miss my blog and the virtual family that resulted. So here I am, starting again. Renewed spirit and plenty of content to share.

My gorgeous bride Ellie, who is currently on her honeymoon, sent me a link to this blog post last week as we anxiously awaited the final accu-weather results on her weather for Saturday. Final Answer=Rain.

She asked that I share this link with future brides as she found it helpful to ease her nerves for Saturday. I have a confession.

As much of a hopeless romantic that I profess to be, I have never been too much of a Valentine's day fan. I believe in endless affection, flowers just because and the notion that everyday should be Valentine's day.

That was pre-engagement to the universes answer to my question of a soulmate.

So today, in honor of all the love that will be shared around the globe, proposals occurring as a type, brides prepping to take their walk of love and children giggling throughout the day, I bring you love. The Architect & The Drummer

This past October, we had the pleasure of working with Tiffany & Demetrius for their big day. Tiffany was an amazing bride and her requests were simple. As an architect, she is very detailed oriented and (as she would say) " somewhat" grounded in terms of cost. As a musician, Demetrius appreciates the creativity of it all.

It was simple. The same simplicity that defined their love. Understated, calm and powerful.

The couple made it a point to choose very genuine and smaller vendors to execute their wedding day. Their florist grew her flowers on a farm In PA. The cake was baked by a woman in her kitchen and her photographer is in her words "an emerging graphic/photographic phenomenon" that is Joshua Black of Blackeye Soup

The wedding was planned to be outdoors during the peak season of fall – however the heavens had another plan. Not only was there a misty rain falling, but it was about 40 degrees outside. Nevertheless, we moved the ceremony indoors and proceeded as planned.

What do you get when you mix a little bit of structure with a little rock and roll?

New Year, New Dreams, New Bling

It's so ironic that not too long ago I started the Tis the season blog posts. The post were short lived as the reality of engagement season, existing client needs, industry events and the holiday took shape.

2009 was a great year for us. We witnessed many couples begin their new lives together, welcomed quite a few POSH "bundles", and successfully expanded our POSH team. We presented at industry conferences and also in our first bridal show. In short, we had a phenomenal year.

2010 is full of promise as we are quickly approaching full capacity (we limit the number of weddings we take so that we can offer exceptional personalized service for all of our couples) and have begun booking for 2011.

Early in the year we will be unveiling a few new changes that we are sure that you will enjoy...more on that to come soon, I promise.

With the new year also came new personal change. On New Years Eve, my very best friend became my fiance. I look forward to sharing this experience with you as well as I juggle my planner and bride hats. I've said it before, but reiterate, I am truly blessed.

Of course, it would just be cruel to end the post without a little "eye" candy, so here you go...

Tis the (engagement) season: The Budget

Ah, the budget. The most dreaded and in my opinion, underused, word in the wedding language. The truth is, we all have one. Whether it is $1k or $100k, there is still a fixed dollar amount that you as a couple agree that you are comfortable spending. If you do not have the budget conversation in the beginning phase of planning, trust and believe it will become an overwhelming topic towards the end.

POSH welcomes...Jordan

Our "Tis the (engagement) season" series was briefly interrupted yesterday by an extra special early delivery from Santa!

Jordan Byrd entered the world at 3:24 yesterday December 14th. At 6lbs, 9 oz and 19", he is certainly a healthy/happy little baby Byrd (love that name).

We had the honor of coordinating the Byrd wedding in October 2006. The Byrds were one of those families...the kind where you just know from the very first moment, the relationship is going to outlast the wedding day itself. Mama Byrd and I our initial meeting at their home and after the hour concluded, we found ourselves chatting like old friends from grade school. That meeting ended at 1:00am and was the beginning of an amazing friendship.

I often say that I am fortunate to have the opportunity to love my work. Not many people are able to play such an integral part in the lives of others. When you see the manifestation of a family from a relationship that you witnessed bound by law, it can be really overwhelming. I thank God for the opportunity.

Tis the (engagement) season:The "who" part of the equation

You said "yes", that was the easy part. The next part of the process is determining "who else".

I'm sure my industry peers are looking in shock that I did not start with the budget, but let's be honest, a budget with no guest list is just as meaningless as no budget. Knowing you will have $20k and not knowing if you are at 20 guests or 500, doesn't mean much. Money is a little easier to determine, you have or you don't, guess however, that is a number that may fluctuate, so try to get started with that first.

You and your fiance need to sit down and have a very serious discussion about what your ideal wedding consists of. If you are not sure where to start, start with the thought of whether your dream day will be intimate vs large. These two words alone, conjure different emotions and a different vision and will (hopefully) help to get you somewhat on the same page.

Take a moment to jot down the numbers you've discussed. Start with family and work from there. For your friends, will you invite any other than the bridal party? Will there be children invited? Co-workers? Neighbors?

Once you have jotted down the names of the people that you can think of off the top of your head, take a look. How close are you to where you ideally need to be? Does this mock list already consists of 200+? If so, you are far from "intimate" considering there is a very good chance that your parents will be contributing a "list" of their own.

If you find yourself needing to cut back, the next step in determining your guest list size is to set some boundaries. Perhaps for the single (for wedding purposes "single" means NOT engaged or otherwise married) people be invited with a guests? Are children considered those of a certain age? Is there a cut-off for friends you will invite (aka you must have known each other for 5+ years), have you seen your family members within the last 4 years. Setting steadfast rules will be a very easy way to eliminate some people right off the bat, without feeling guilty about doing so.

This should bring you closer to the ultimate goal: determining the one number you DO NOT want to exceed. If you still find yourself struggling, ask yourself a very honest question, would you on any other given day, be comfortable with taking this person to a $125 dinner and paying, if not, draw a big line between there name. because that is what your wedding expense for this one individual would be.

Once you've done that, whether it is three hundred or twenty, your next duty is to notify your parents of the amount of guests they are welcome to invite. A quick rule of thumb is that each set of parents receives 1/4 of the list and you and your intended receive half.

I'd love to end this post here but want to just give a disclaimer. I know that guest lists are not easy. Especially when you have so many people saying that other people just HAVE to come. There was an episode of the Cosby Show where Theo graduated and the father, Dr. Huxtable, invited everyone and brought lawn chairs for those who the stadium could not accommodate. THIS IS MY FAMILY! I do understand. Your wedding however, is not a free for all so a definite count is necessary to proceed with budgeting your expenses-tomorrow's topic.

Forgive me internet. I have committed the ultimate cyber sin and went on a short hiatus from the blog. Not without good reason though. The POSH family has expanded and in the last few months we've welcome many new couples to our home. I'm excited to introduce them to you over the stages of planning thier big events.

We will also be introducing a 12 day series entiteld "Tis the (engagement) season " which is my little homage to the 12 days of Christmas. This series will feature daily post from now until Christmas day (I promise to post on my birthday as well) to help all the newly engaged and ladies in "waiting" to prepare themselves for the ride which awaits them.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled (blog) program...

The wedding industry is one of the few that has cyclical trends. This season,vintage, rustic, tea length and smilebooths last season lemon, damask, king arthur and tiffany. As a bride, it is quite easy to get pulled into the trend cycle and find yourself up to your ears in all the things you just knew you'd avoid.

Well ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to introduce you to what I believe to be the next crazed buzz word for the 2010 season...Cinematography.

I'll be honest, this is one I'm excited to see grow. In a world where "videographers" are born by the minute and everyone with a camera believes they qualify, I'm excited to see the new brand of filmmakers that are taking wedding films to an entirely new level.

One of the studios in the forefront of this movement is Still Motion Photo and Cinema. Let me just tell you, if you have never viewed their work, prepare to be amazed. The videos they create are far from your parent's home video. They've mastered the art of telling a story through a motion-picture, artistic eye and the end result is certainly art in motion. The best part, this is all done through what appears to be a camera based recorder, small and unobtrusive, with built in light

My adorable bride Bethany first introduced me to this style as she has an incredible appreciation for the artform. If you find yourself drawn to this type of film, you will be happy to know that locally there are companies who offer a similar style including First Floor Films and CinemaCake Films(formally DVideography)and Illumimoto. If you are a lover of the 8mm "vintage feel" than Well Spun (whose work I adore) would also be a strong contender to capture your day.

I first posted about Arielle & Kevin when we announced our new series "Sneak Peak" on the blog. I'm so happy to share the details of their phenomenal day.

The result...one of the most unforgettable weddings that I have had the privelege to assist with.

Arielle & Kevin were married in an intimate ceremony at Rockleigh Country Club in Rockleigh, NJ. Guests were greeted to the sounds of a guitarist as they sat in anticipation of the marriage of two people who were undeniably "head over heels" in love. Though the weather put a bit of a damper on the outdoor ceremony, the amazing decorators at Amaryllis were able to construct the flower-filled chupah indoors and create the feel of the most beautiful indoor garden I'd ever seen.

After the ceremony, guests were treated to a lavish cocktail hour and then welcome into the party to the sounds of Sumar Entertainment. Between the toasts, the awesome music, the Hora that literally caused all of us to gasp and the Viennese feast (table just doesn't do it any justice), there wasn't a dull moment throughout the night.

Toni marries Rodney

I remember the first time we spoke.

Toni was not like other Brides. She was calm and collected and the "brief" initial conversation quickly evolved into a two hour chat similar to that you would have with a long lost girlfriend. Shortly thereafter, she contracted us for our "Deluxe" planning services. Meetings were held over meals, since the wedding took place in Northern New Jersey, and there was never a dull moment during the planning process.

Every "i" was dotted and "t" crossed for this chic and modern wedding and on the morning of, not even the Hurricane which came through the area, could damper the spirit of the day. It's why I do what I do.

It is now almost a year later and not only are we preparing to celebrate the anniversary of another POSH couple, I'm celebrating the friendship of (as she affectionally refers to herself) my "crazy bride" Toni.

Forgive me blog. I know I've been tardy. Twitter, my latest social media obsession, is partially to blame.

While parusing my daily tweets, a friend and colleague, Andria Lewis of Andria Lewis Events, posted an awesome article from MSN Lifestyle, Wedding Guests Secret Gripes. The article speaks to complaints that wedding guests have about attending your wedding. While normally I explain to couples that regardless of how you try, guests will NEVER be satisfied, I think the article highlights areas you should atleast make an attempt to consider. I've posted the article below:

You may think your wedding is all about you and your groom (or maybe just you) but, hello, you're hosting a party! If your guests are miserable, your wedding will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. So we talked to dozens of frequent wedding guests — from always-a-bridesmaids to recent brides to guys in their 20s and 30s — to find out what they hated about the events they've attended. We've kept the guests' names secret just in case they're coming to your wedding!

Your Timing Stinks
Huge time gaps between the ceremony and the reception — the ones where the ceremony starts at noon, but the party isn't until 7 p.m. — are annoying because you're often leaving us in the middle of nowhere with absolutely nothing to do. We don't want to kill time at a restaurant because we're hoping you'll feed us well at your reception. And there's only so much lingering we can do at a coffee shop or a bookstore ... in our dressy clothes! We'd much rather head straight to the party after the "I dos."

You Picked a Bad Day
We've had weddings on every holiday, from Mother's Day to Super Bowl Sunday (yes, that counts as a holiday). You must realize that we'd rather be with our moms or watching the game instead of going to your wedding on those days. And please don't ruin our holiday weekends. We get it; you can save a bundle if you get hitched on the Sunday before Memorial Day, but maybe we'd like to take our vacations then. If nothing else, please don't get married on some random Tuesday night. That means we have to take off two days from work just to go! Let us use our vacation days for vacations.

You're Boring Us
The ceremony may be the most important part of the day to you, but the reception is what we're really looking forward to. When it takes forever to get dinner served, each speech is 25 minutes long, and you play a string of songs that are all inside jokes with the same group of friends, there isn't much time for getting our groove on. Uh, and if the band's so bad that no one's dancing — including you and your groom — we just think, Why are we even here? Showing us a really good time is the least that you can do to thank us for giving up our free day, traveling, and getting you an expensive gift.

The Food Isn't Great
Why would you bother spending thousands on your flowers if your food is going to taste terrible? We want a delicious meal way more than we want pretty centerpieces. You don't know this, but we actually think of that $200 gift as a contribution to a great meal. If it's not as good as something we'd have at a restaurant, we're going to be disappointed. Even if the food is tasty, don't make us go hungry. We don't need an eight-course meal, but we don't want to have to push through other guests just to get to the tiny hors d'oeuvres you're calling dinner.

You Make Us Pay?!
Treat your guests like guests; don't make us bring our wallets whenever we want a drink! When you have more than 300 guests and a cash bar, we wish that you would've just cut the list and paid for our drinks instead. How exactly are we supposed to feel when we paid for flights, a rental car, a hotel room, and a gift, and then you make us pay at the bar? So not cool.

You Sat Us Here
We want to have fun at your wedding, believe us, but it's pretty tricky when you seat us right in front of giant speakers. We won't be able to talk to anyone at our tables or enjoy our dinner if you're blowing out our eardrums. Before you book your venue, make sure there's enough space for tables without having to make us sit in the DJ's lap. And don't make us suffer in the heat. If you're having a summer wedding, do it somewhere with air conditioning!

Also, if you want to be outdoors, don't make us rough it: Walking around in the mud, swatting bugs, or using porta-potties is even less fun in formal attire. And please give us plenty of places to sit. Cocktail hours are great, but it's pretty tough to balance our plates, drinks, and purses while standing — in heels no less!

You Don't Invite a Plus-One
Nothing reminds us of our dating status like a wedding. No need to rub it in our faces with even more reminders. The garter and bouquet tosses are like saying, "Hey, look at them. They're single!" Could you blame us if we hide in the bathroom as soon as the DJ announces it? And, come on, even if they did honestly predict we'd be the next to marry, do we really want some cheesy guy slipping garters up our legs? Of course, we'd prefer to be invited with a date, but we get why you may not be able to give us that, especially if we'll know lots of other people there. But if everyone we know is making out with their significant other all night, we're going to be pissed that you couldn't include one extra person to make us feel a little more comfortable.

You Put Us to Work
We know we'll have to help out with some tasks when we agree to be in the bridal party, but it's insulting when you consider a task like manning the guest book table an honor. We'd rather just be a regular guest at the wedding than have some silly duty like that. At the very least, give us a heads up if you'll need our help. Don't spring flower girl babysitting duties on us minutes before the reception.

You Don't Say Thank You
It's frustrating when we fly all the way to your wedding and you don't take the time to thank us for making the trip. Even if we haven't come a long way, make an effort to thank us for coming anyway. We know it's hard to talk to every guest at the wedding, but that's why, at the very least, we better get a thank-you card from you when you get back from your honeymoon!"

I really hope you found this article to be beneficial and that it gives you just a little something to take into consideration as your planning your special day. Couples always try to go out of thier way to accodomate thier guests and this goes to show that sometimes, it's the little (and not so little things) that matter. While I don't necessarily agree with all the points (I think the Sunday before a major holiday is an awesome time for your wedding, if your family is general in town and you can save $5-10k), I do find some to be valid.

Weddings & Coordinators: The Recap

Everyday I feel bombarded with the notion of the recession and the economy. The tabloids will have you believe that the wedding industry is recession proof, however, I for one have had many Clients delay their weddings, to allow for the securing of additional finances. I also notice that many couples are trying to "save a buck" by taking the cheaper route and hiring an inexperienced planner or paying a family friend.

I'm always saddened by this. Not because I believe that weddings can not be planned without the assistance of a Coordinator, but because I believe that with your wedding, moreso than any other time, if you're going to do something, do it right.

I can't reiterate it enough.

So, in honor of Monday and the start of a nerw week, I went into the archives and pulled out two of my absolute favorite posts. True Life: I am a Wedding Coordinator and Not Looking to Pay for Advice . If you are newly engaged and consdering hiring a Planner or a newbie to the industry, I hope these articles provide some insight into the life of a Professional Coordinator verses a "weekend warrior" (as some may call it) and illustrate that the dollars invested will be well worth it in the end.

During the planning process, I always advise my clients to set aside a few hours in any given day and schedule an engagement session with their photographer. Unlike the wedding day,where there is a ton of "hustle and bustle", the engagement session gives the couple the opportunity to truly relish in each other's love and have it documented...not to mention you can feel like a true superstar and have an excuse to shop. Who doesn't love that?

Engagement session photos can be utilized for ceremony or reception decor, incorporated into your wedding stationary, or simply retained as your own keepsake. What I love the most about the sessions is that typically, my Clients say that they experienced a much needed "break" from the planning process and really enjoyed themselves. The session also gives the photographer a little room to be more creative.

The Groom's Perspective

I will be honest. It's not the easiest conversation to have with a newly engaged couple that the fee for our services can be between a $1500-$7,000 expense. Though I truly believe that in this day and time, many couples recognize the benefit of a Planner, I highly doubt most are prepared for the cost.

As the couple and I sit in our office and we entertain the concept of what a fantasy wedding means to the Bride, I'm always amazed at the eager, yet silent spirit exuded by the Groom. Is he excited? Of course. Opinionated? Of course. But somehow, we live in a society where the "groom's perspective" is often overlooked and everything defaults to the common notion of "It's all about the Bride, whatever she likes".

My outlook on planning is a little different in that it is very important for me to include the Groom in the planning process. After all, what good is an equation with only half of the formula?

I received a recent review on weddingwire and I must say, not only was I honored, I was humbled by what my recent Groom Colby had to say:

Jennifer and I found Isis through a co-worker. We went to Philly around the middle of November to interview Isis along with a few other planners. The first thing that I noticed about Isis was eye contact. To explain, other planners that Jennifer and I had interviewed had about 85% eye contact with the Bride, as if I the groom did not exist. To me, that is a sign that the planner will not consult the groom or interact with the groom about wedding decisions. With Isis, she gave both Jennifer and myself equal eye contact when interviewing. She was confident in answering questions, and she appeared to be a sensible and reasonable person. Jennifer and I knew that Isis would be our pick before we even left Philly that night. During the wedding planning process, Isis was persistant, motivated, and attentive to all of our needs. She even went over and beyond to make sure we were satisfied. What I liked the most about Isis is that if she happened to miss our call, she gave us a call right back. Email was the same as well. It is not uncommon for her to email back in the same minute you sent her a message. She is always accessible and even though she is also planning other weddings, you would never know it. We always felt like she was our own personal planner. We sort of got jealous when we saw other wedding pictures. We were like, what is our Isis doing planning their wedding!!!! LOL. From the interview to the big day, Isis stayed on top of all of our milestones, deadlines, and insured that we did everything we were supposed to do when we were supposed to do it.

This was our first wedding and neither one of us had a clue as to what we were doing. We were blessed to have someone like Isis that helped us put the pieces together to create a wedding that my family is still talking about almost a month after. If you have been contiplating whether you should get a wedding planner, take it from me, when you are about 2 months from your big day, you will see why spending the extra money on a planner is worth it; especially if it is Isis. There are so many loose ends to tie 2 months out that it is almost impossible to enjoy your big day if you are worried about everything going right. Isis will tie all the ends and put all the pieces together to insure that on the days leading to the wedding and on the big day, you will not have to worry about a thing. Just tellem to "Call Isis"!!!! LOL

Isis is passionate about what she does and loves to plan weddings. This is not just a job for her, this is what she lives for. If you are the type of person who believes that paying attention to detail is important, good quality of service is fundamental to excellent customer support, and addressing small issues may solve big problems, then you will be more than satisfied with Isis. Believe me, when it is your big day, you want someone who has all angles covered and is prepared for anything.

I loved Isis so much that I am actually considering getting married again!!!!!!

The POSH Team

If you've ever attended a POSH event, you'll notice myself and my team of women in black. You'll also notice the stilettos in which many of them work, which still amazes me to this day! You know the saying...you're only as good as your weakest link? I'm fortunate in that I do not have that problem!!!! I've been able to build this business with the help of some ultra-fabulous ladies who work harder than anyone I know. The ladies are truly gems. We laugh together, lug together and at the end of almost every event, you may catch a glimpse of us dancing (discreetly of course) to "Last Dance" or some other song as a sure sign that we've helped another couple live the night of their dreams. I love these gals!

We were fortunate enough to spend the day a few weeks ago with the phenomenal Rob Medina of Medina Photography, who willingly accepted the challenge of photographing the lovely ladies so we can update the POSH website. So, without further ado, I introduce you to my team (aka my miracle workers):

First up is Nila. Nila was first introduced to the blog when she began her internship and we are happy to say she has since graduated from Rowan University. She is a total "joy" and has a laugh that is contagious. Nila's personality is always so upbeat that she can get the entire team through the day.

The next addition to the team is Jenelle. Jenelle is the newest Associate of the POSH team. She joins us with years of planning experience in the fashion industry. Jenelle has a smile that can brighten a room and a no-nonsense down to business way about her.

Then there is Tammy. Tammy and I have known each other almost our entire lives and I was thrilled when she agreed to join the team two few years ago. Tammy's background is in psychology and sales and she certainly knows how to use those dimples to get her way.

Last but not least is Malakeia. Malakeia is my right-hand at almost every event and has been a part of the team the longest. If you've read our reviews on weddingwire or on the website, you'll most likely see some attempt of a spelling of her name, as our Clients just love her. She is a seamstress by trade, a stickler for detail and one of the most patient people I know!

Well, there you have it, the ladies that help me make it all look so easy. I hope that you'll get to know them a little better as they make themselves at home on the blog.

I adore my couples. Seriously, I do.

Even more than adoring my couples, I love the fact that 85% of our couples stay in touch LONG after the nuptials are done. Between dinner and drinks, home purchases and bi-coastal moves, our couples keep us in the loop a good majority of the time. But my absolute FAVORITE reason to stay in touch, well...

POSH is happy to welcome our newest addition to the extended POSH family, baby Ryann Nicole. Ryann was born to Mr & Mrs. Allen, whos Lucien's Manor ceremony and reception we coordinated in May 2006. Ryann was born yesterday evening at 9:46 pm and weighed in at whopping :-) 5lbs, 5.3oz and 20 1/4" long.

We are headed to the hospital to visit our newest little bundle of joy. Is she not just the cutest? Check out the details on the hat-DIVA!

Jennifer & Colby

Jennifer and Colby are our Virginia connection.

One of the best perks of being a Wedding Coordinator, and especially one located in Cherry Hill, New Jersey,is that due to our geographic location between New York and Washington DC, we have engaged couples come into the Delaware Valley region for their nuptials. This Virginia couple found Philadelphia the perfect location for their "destination" wedding.

Jennifer and Colby and I have been working together for months on thier wedding taking place next May. I remember the first time we met at the Hyatt Penn's Landing. From the very first exchange, it was obvious that this was a couple in love. Not just ordinary love either. These two truly finish each other's sentences, talk in a private language and laugh at each others jokes. They have THAT kind of love.

We don't get to see each other very often, since they are a distance planning couple for POSH, so we welcomed their last visit to the city for their engagement session with the always fabulous Rob Medina. Here are a few sneak peaks:

Make it Legal

If you are getting married in the state of NJ, there are a few steps to obtaining your marriage license. In preparation for a very busy wedding season, we felt it would only be appropriate to give a little refresher course:

Where should you apply for a New Jersey marriage license?

If the bride is a resident of New Jersey, the New Jersey marriage license must be obtained from the Registrar of Vital Statistics in the municipality where she lives.

If the bride is a non-resident of New Jersey and the groom is a resident of New Jersey, the New Jersey marriage license must be obtained from the Registrar in the municipality in which the groom resides. (For marriage license purposes, soldiers are residents of the posts at which they are stationed.) A NJ marriage license issued under either of the preceeding circumstances is good for use anywhere in New Jersey.

If both bride and groom are non-residents of New Jersey, the New Jersey marriage license must be obtained from the Registrar of the municipality where the marriage is to be performed and is only good for use in that municipality.

Who can perform a New Jersey marriage ceremony?

According to state law, judges of a Federal District Court, United States magistrates, judges of a Municipal Court, judges of the Superior Court, judges of a Tax Court, retired judges of the Superior Court or Tax Court, of judge of the Superior Court or Tax Court who has retired in good standing and any mayor/deputy mayor or chairman of any township committee, village president of New Jersey, County Clerks, and every minister of every religion may solemnize a marriage.

NEW JERSEY MARRIAGE LICENSE APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

1. Photo identification for both you and your fiance.
2. Original birth certificates for you and your fiance.
3. A witness who is over 18 years of age.
4. Application fee of $28.00, cash, check or money order
5. There is a 72 hour waiting period after the application has been made. Therefore, if your proposed NJ wedding date is September 14th, apply on or before September 10th, to allow for the waiting period and your wedding date.
6. If either of the applicants is divorced, the divorce documents for the applicant in question must be brought in at the time of application.
7. Social Security cards.
8. The New Jersey Marriage License is valid for 30 days after you receive it. If for any reason you cannot use the New Jersey Marriage License within the 30-day period, you will have to reapply.
9. At the time of application, inquiries can be made regarding obtaining a certified copy of the NJ marriage license.
10. A New Jersey marriage license application may be obtained from your local municipal office or by going to www.state.nj.us/health/vital/marriage.htm. The NJ marriage license application is a two page document. Only the first page of the application may be completed prior to your appointment. The second page is completed in the presence of the Registrar of Vital Statistics.

***Be sure to contact the Registrar well in advance of the wedding to find out on what days and during what hours the Registrar will be in the office.***
If you have additional questions regarding Vital Statistics matters, you may contact the State at the Office of New Jersey State Registrar (609) 292-4087.

It never fails. Be it a Bride or any other day when you're a regular woman trying your best to lose those 5/10 extra pounds.

We've all said it.

Detail, detail, detail! Many brides question small details and information when it comes to invitations. Questions such as what color, style or design should I use? How far in advanced should I send my invitation out to have enough time for a response? Do I need anything else in the envelope aside from the actual invitation? In the next “Nila says…” the topic of choice will be invitations! I will guide you in choosing the perfect look by giving you some hints to help guide you towards that perfect invitation!

Before you begin make sure the following steps have been taken:

Confirm with locations!
- Before you choose your invitations, make sure you have confirmed with all location sites (church, halls and reception hall) date and time! You want to make sure you have everything set to go before you send out your invitations.
RSVP
- RSVP’s are always going to be inserted with the invitation. Make sure you place the order for your RSVP when placing your order for invitations. You will most likely have this done at the same time! RSVP’s will be returned to you with the amount of guest per household. This will give you a set amount of how many guests will be attending.
Directions
- Remember not everyone is coming from local or familiar areas. You want to keep in mind that someone if not everyone will need directions to all locations. When confirming with your locations, make sure you ask for directions. Small inserts that match your invitations can be placed in the envelope to inform all your guests.
Other accommodations
- In many weddings people are coming from all different parts of the state or country. Keep in mind not everyone will have a place to stay if they are traveling from far distances. In a case such as this one, hotel accommodations are a necessity. Take the time to research hotels near or around the area your ceremony is located. Hotels are more than willing to guide you with information regarding discounts that may be available. Insert a small card in your invitation that will inform guests of such possibilities.

Now that you have what you need on an invitation and in the envelope, remember they must be sent out one- two months prior to your wedding date. This will give you plenty of time to count the amount of guest and confirm one last time with your location.

Now the big step...choosing the invitation! An invitation is something you want to keep simple and related to the style of your wedding. Choose something that is complimentary to the colors and theme of your wedding. Also, be mindful of the shape of the invitation and how best to personalize so your invitation to be a reflection of you. Remember, your invitation will set the "tone" for your guests and give them a sneak peak of what's to come. Be creative, be fun and most of all, select something you LOVE. After all, first impressions are oh so important.

Hello bloggers. I'm BAAAAACCCKKKK!

I've missed the blog so much. I truly appreciate all the support/emails and personal phone calls I received during the last few weeks; it's definitely helped with the healing process. In the meantime, we've been working on so much at POSH, there will be lots of changes to announce over the next few weeks so certainly stay tuned for more.

This weekend I had the privelege to speak at the Designed for Success workshop hosted by Deidre Gray of Always a Positive Image. It's so funny; after years in the business, I'm always amazed to realize that you truly never stop learning. My fellow colleagues and presenters not only showed up, they "showed out" and the attendees gave the workshop rave reviews. It is truly an honor to be able to share the knowledge I've acquired from some of the industry's finest, with aspiring and established Wedding Coordinators. After 2 consecutive years of presenting, I must admit, I have a bit of an itch of my own to teach. I'm just wondering what the attendance would be from my fellow colleagues. Hmmm...

I've been promised photos of the spectacular event so I'll be sure to share. Hope everyone had a wonderful week and I look forward to making up for lost time

Nila Says...Favors are a favorite.

The invitations have been sent out, the dress has arrived and all the orders have been placed. Are you forgetting anything? As you try to go down the list, detail per detail, you remember that one main part of the wedding has been forgotten. The favors!! You might be asking yourself; do we really need them, how can something so small be such a significant detail to this wedding? Well believe it or not, this small little piece of the puzzle, is what places the finishing touches to such an amazing night. Favors are a simple and significant treat you hand out at the end of the night to all your guests. It is your small token of appreciation.
A wedding itself is a spectacular event that many unite to celebrate. For the most part, the food, dancing and joy of this special night is more than enough. Favors for that matter do not have to overpower the event. Something simple is all you need.

When ordering party favors make sure to keep a few things in mind.
- Order amount per household. You never want to order more than the guest list.
- Party favors are for guests to have a memory of your special night. Remember to place the date of your wedding along with your name and you’re significant others name on the favor.
Remember to keep it simple:
Some ideas:
- CD with the bride and grooms favorite song
- Chocolates with packaging that contains bride and grooms name and date of wedding
- Candles
- Customized cookies with date and names
- If weddings are themed, make arrangements so that your favors go along with the theme.
o Beach Theme:
- Small seashells with name and date imprinted in them
- Cookies shaped into seashells or other beach related objects
- Small treasure boxes filled with chocolate coins

There are thousands of small creations one can put together. These are just a few ideas you might want to consider. Remember that creativity and simplicity are key factors to wedding favors!

Every girls dream wedding begins with the thoughts of the perfect flower arrangements and the perfect dress. These are just some of the small details that are imprinted in our minds when fantasizing about our perfect night. Once our fantasy becomes a reality, we must acknowledge the more in-depth preparations. Wedding locations, for one, are the main but most tedious part of planning a wedding. Many questions such as; will all my guests fit, will the location accommodate my entire guest list or will I even be able to stay within my budget, may begin to develop in one’s mind. Well, have no worries, for the next couple of weeks I will help you answer all those questions and supply you with ideas and details on wedding venues that will make your dream wedding a reality.

First and foremost, when starting out with your location, the first thing you might want to think about is your theme. What kind of wedding are you having? - A traditional wedding where many locations can accommodate you? A beach wedding, where only chairs and a few decorations might be needed? A location can change the complete theme of your wedding. For instance, let’s focus on a beach wedding for today.

Things you might want to consider:

For the most part all we need for a beach wedding is a perfect ocean view, sand and great weather! There are thousands of beaches all around the world and many options you might want to consider.

Step 1: Choose the area where the beach you favor is located.
-There are beaches all over New Jersey. Some beaches are private and some aren’t. For the most part, you might want to reserve a location where others will not be interrupting.
-Keeping this in mind, take a walk around the local area. In areas where beaches are located you may be entitled to find a nice location for your reception.

Step 2: Budget
-Private beaches will amount to a cost. Remember to consider that you will be paying for the reservation on the beach, seating, location and site arrangements. If the price is too much, don’t be scared to continue to look around for more options. Remember the sky is the limit! Don’t settle for less!

Step 3: Reserve it
-If you have found the perfect beach, reserve it. It is important that once you have found what you want and it fits all your requirements, you reserve it immediately. Once the place is reserved, you have set the date and you can now move on to the next step in your dream wedding!

Introducing Nila

At the close of 2008, I gave you guys a sneak peek into the POSH future. With the expansion of our services to offer more design ("Touches") packages, grew the need to grow our internal staff as well.

A few months ago, I received an email from the most bubbly candidate I'd come across in a long time. Her name was Nila, and instantly I knew this girl was different. After a face to face and countless conversations, I was excited to bring her aboard.

Nila will be our new intern for the 2009 wedding season. She hails from Rowan University and...well, I will let her tell you more about herself.

Introducing Nila!

Hello everyone! My name is Nila del Rio and I am a senior at Rowan University. I am currently majoring in Public Relations and hoping to become a wedding planner after I graduate. I am an eternal optimist, who you will always find smiling. I believe every day is a new day and with each experience we learn something new. I have always admired and appreciated the thoughtful and creative process it takes to put a wedding together. I have participated in many, ranging from the flower girl to the bride’s maid; sometimes I feel like Jane from “27 Dresses”! Each experience I’ve had has been breathtaking. In these next few months I will have the opportunity to intern and work both behind and in front of the scenes and I am excited and confident that I will gain knowledge throughout my time at Posh Events.

Some work and some play

You may have noticed a slight delay in postings on the blog but I have a good reason, really I do. I am happily writing to you today from the Special Event Show in Sunny San Diego, CA. The experience has been quite moving and inspiring and my wedding wheels are actively turning.

As a professional coordinator it is so important to stay "fresh" in the industry and knowledgeable about trends across the region and the globe. The Special Event Show brings the industries finest to one central location for a week of seminars, trade show exhibiting and networking events.

I intended on blogging straight from the show during the week, however my camera had another plan so there will be lots to report when I get back. Even more excited, I have lots of company related news to share including new additions to staff, conferences and more so stay tuned!

Hope you're all staying warm...I know I am.

It's not what you know...

When you are newly engaged, it's very easy to go from calm to overly excited and in a matter of seconds. More often that not, it's been my obversation that couples literally just don't know where to start.

Beyond the obvious narrowing down your Vendor categories, when it is time to actually participate in initial meetings, it's common place for selecting of a Vendor to become quite the daunting task. Here's my advice, instead of just focusing on what you DO like, cutting out pages and pages of every flower that gets you to smile, how about you narrow it down to your top 5/10 items that you like and also select 5 that you DO NOT like.

Here's why....

As a Vendor, it's just as easy for us to help guide you down the right path to wedded bliss knowing what you do not like (i.e. bright colors, floral patterns, the outdoors, children, etc.) as it is knowing what you do like. Weddings are about personalization. You want your day to be memorable and to ensure that we can translate your vision for the day, and letting us know what you don't like is just as important.

So, if you find yourself struggling to figure out all the right things to select, how about starting from the opposite end of the spectrum, literally. You'd be surprised. Sometimes you know more than you think!

Honoring Obama

We will resume our Wedding related posts tomorrow but today we want to rejoice and Celebrate in the spirit of the inaguaration.

As I watch from the warmth of my bed the masses of people braving the cold in Washington, DC today to welcome in the new President, recovering from my sickness, I am honored that as a Country we have joined together to work towards change.

CNN mentioned today that the election would be the most watched television program EVER, second to the season finally of MASH (I loved that show by the way). It amazes me that millions of people come today with a similar belief, similar needs and a similar vision. Change begins.

A Little bit country. A little rock and roll

Ok, ok, I'm neither but I totally support life outside of the box. Truth be told, I don't even own a "box". Well...maybe a little one, but it often takes a back seat.

Saturday we were honored to participate in the Unbridaled Expo at the Crane Arts Building where we joined a number of the areas most creative event vendors for one amazing bridal industry event.

Unfortunately, my camera suffered from exhaustion and would not cooperate for photos. Luckily I was surrounded by quite a few amazing photographers who don't mind me sharing some of their work.

Sheilla married Michael

In my email inbox yesterday, straight from Avignon, France, was a sweet note from my dear Bride Sheilla, which read

"...I can't wait to see you to give you a big hug!!. My family and I are thankful for all that you did. The wedding was beautiful. Everybody was pleased and said, I quote: "(This was) the best wedding I ever went too."

Thanks again. Like you said everything is going to be ok. I still remember these words. Thanks for that, it really worked for me. You are personally a great human being devoted to your clients and work. Please never forget that our relationship won't end in our wedding. We both consider you a friend and we would like to keep in touch with you as much as we can."

The email arrived on time as a special gift was sent directly from the Bride's parents all the way from Puerto Rico. Talk about a great way to start the week!

On an unseasonably warm late December day, Sheilla and Michael exchanged vows during a quaint ceremony at Saint Joan of Arc Church in Marlton, NJ. Their reception took place immediately following at Little Mill Country Club in Marlton, NJ.

Distance planning doesn't even BEGIN to describe the coordination elements of this wedding. With the Bride's parents in Puerto Rico, the Bride and Groom local but hard at work, and all other members of the Bridal party scattered throughout the region, electronic correspondence and conference calls became our best ally during the planning process.

At the end of the day, we think we hit a home run with combining the couple's traditional taste, with a modern and "warm" themed holiday wedding.
