Wednesday

It's not what you know...

When you are newly engaged, it's very easy to go from calm to overly excited and in a matter of seconds. More often that not, it's been my obversation that couples literally just don't know where to start.

Beyond the obvious narrowing down your Vendor categories, when it is time to actually participate in initial meetings, it's common place for selecting of a Vendor to become quite the daunting task. Here's my advice, instead of just focusing on what you DO like, cutting out pages and pages of every flower that gets you to smile, how about you narrow it down to your top 5/10 items that you like and also select 5 that you DO NOT like.

Here's why....

As a Vendor, it's just as easy for us to help guide you down the right path to wedded bliss knowing what you do not like (i.e. bright colors, floral patterns, the outdoors, children, etc.) as it is knowing what you do like. Weddings are about personalization. You want your day to be memorable and to ensure that we can translate your vision for the day, and letting us know what you don't like is just as important.

So, if you find yourself struggling to figure out all the right things to select, how about starting from the opposite end of the spectrum, literally. You'd be surprised. Sometimes you know more than you think!

My name is NOT Susan!

…or Iris for that matter!

Being the victim of a 4 letter "unique yet beautiful" name, I've spent most of my adult life becoming accustomed to the notion that people pay little attention to the correct pronunciation of names. Trust me, I’ve been referred to as everything from Is-Is to I-Cease, with my personal all time favorite being "IRIS", and it never ceases to amaze me. While most days I can just shrug it off, I can't imagine this being the case at an important event…let alone a Wedding!

On your wedding day, be sure that you provide your Master of Ceremonies with the phonetic pronunciation (Isis= I-sis) for your bridalparty. Please don't take it for granted, in this day of silent letters and extra long e's, that your name is as easy to pronounce as youthink it is. If you've hired a professional WEDDING disc jockey, this tends to be a second nature practice for them...but just in case-have a version ready to provide to them.

Just one less thing to worry about and believe me, your bridal party members with names like my sister Saidah (= Sigh-e-dah) and colleague Deidre (=De-a-dra) will appreciate it!

Jill & Dan

Wednesday I had the pleasure of meeting with POSH's newest Bride-to-be Jill and her mom, Doris. The Initial meeting was held in the family's beautiful home in Haddon Heights and was a complete success! With a guest list of 350, full Catholic Mass, and ceremony and reception 45 minutes apart, you would think that we would only be able to "brush the surface" in terms of the event. Well, not only were we able to discuss the couple's vision for the day, we were able to discuss a tentative timeline, color scheme and specific event details, all in less than a two hour span. Why? Because this family totally "gets it" when it comes to planning and hiring a Coordinator for Month-of service.

Before you contact a Consultant regarding Day/Month Of Services, be sure that you can answer "yes" to all of the questions below:

1. Have you booked all of your Wedding day Vendors? If not, have you atleast booked your Ceremony location, Reception Venue, Photographer, Videographer, Transportation and Entertainment?
2. Do you have signed Contracts readily accessible for review?
3. Have you ordered your attire as well as that of the Bridesmaids?
4. Have you made necessary deposits for all of your vendors?
5. Do you have contact information for all of your Vendors as well as your Wedding Party.

If you have completed the majority of the steps listed above, now is a good time to Bring in a Coordinator to truly pull together the finishing touches. Keep in mind, many entry level packages only allow for a limited amount of planning time in addition to the Day-Of. If you find yourself needing additional assistance, it is probably a better idea to upgrade to a larger package as opposed to paying an hourly rate for planning.

Please help me in welcoming Jill & Dan to the family!
