More and more people are “going green.” They’re changing from plastic water bottles to reusable bottles, getting shorter showers, driving hybrid cars, and cutting back on their paper use. Being environmentally friendly for a wedding isn’t always the first thing on the bride’s mind, however there are quite a few things that you can do to make your wedding enviro-chic. Instead of cut flowers for a centerpiece, you could have small trees or plants that your guests can take home and plant. Don’t like that idea? Try to buy locally-grown, or organic flowers. Instead of throwing rice or blowing bubbles, give your guests seeds to throw-birds will eat them and they will eventually turn into beautiful landscaping. Plus, there’s always the literal idea of a green theme (green colors), or have your event outdoors, surrounded by nature!
How else can you incorporate environmental friendliness in your wedding, without losing style? Here are a few tips:
• Minimize the amount of driving your guests will need to do
• Donate leftover food rather than tossing it out
• Don’t register for things you don’t need; give your guests the option of making a donation to a cause close to your heart
So to end today’s post, I would like to close with a quote…
“Life without love is like a tree without blossoms or fruit.”

University Setting
Last night I attended a networking event for the Association of Professional Event Designers at the TD Bank Executive Conference Center (Formerly Commerce Bank Executive Center) in Mount Laurel, NJ. The meeting featured a presentation by Mark Kingsdorf of The Queen of Hearts Wedding Consultants, entitled "going green now without losing the WOW!" and was quite informative.
I personally feel that over the last year both in my home and professional life I've made a real effort to infuse environmentally friendly and socially conscious items into everyday habits. Not only have we adapted a number of methods in the office to reduce the paper and energy we utilize, we often consult with our Clients on ways to incorporate touches to reduce their carbon footprint throughout their events.
After years of driving past the University, I was certainly looking forward to an "after-hours" view of the event space potential. I must admit, I really did like the "canvas". Though not ideal as a Wedding venue in my opinion, I feel like the contemporary feel of the space lends itself very well to hosting a modern social or corporate event. From the magnificent glass stairwell to the illuminated red pillars and humongous trees in the foyer, upon entering the space I certainly had a wow reaction. (Sidebar: I really miss the signature red of commerce bank. Is it me or does the green just not seem right?)
Of course I carried my handy camera to share pictures throughout the night:
This photo was inspired by a Wedding Coordinator colleague of mine who always documents her meals. I thought it would be fun to snap a shot of the awesome food prepared by Andreotti's Viennese Cafe (The salad was to die for!)

A little blurred...but here is a shot of Christina Lupo of the Queen of Hearts Wedding Consultants and Denise Herker with Leigh Florist.

If you're looking for a unique venue to hold your event, I would definitely stop by and take a peak. The architecture of the building is gorgeous.

Scotlyn's going green!
Hello Ladies! My name is Scotlyn Campanella and I am very pleased to say that I am one of the two new interns at POSH Events for this coming wedding season! Currently I am studying abroad in Leeds, England to receive an Events Management Certificate. While being here, I have noticed one topic that seems to come up time and again - “Going Green”. Not that planning a wedding or any event isn’t already a stressful task but now there is the growing pressure of making everything environmentally friendly. For those are unsure of where to start “Going Green” I want to share with you a great way to get involved….
Botanical Paperworks is a brilliant family-run company that has created “paper that blooms into flowers”. They have an extensive collection of paper products but also have created a line of wedding favors that are beautiful and unique.

When browsing through their products I came upon a elegant heart shaped box. This box can not only be filled with treats of your choice but when planted in the ground can actually grow flowers! The boxes are “tree- free”, made out of 100% recycled materials and are available in 6 fantastic colors. Each box comes with a set of directions how to plant and grow the flowers. Aside from the heart shaped box, they also offer a variety of other wonderful gifts!
Using Botanical Paperworks is a great way to give a stylish gift that everyone will appreciate, while still keeping in mind the concept of “Going Green”! Gotta love it.

It's ok to be green...
In this instance for sure!
I was tagged by my very good friend and amazing colleague Kelly McWilliams of Weddings By Socialites
for the Green Tage game. Here's the deal... you have to list your contribution to maintaining an eco-friendly, green environment and at POSH, we do try our best:
1. We've begun requesting increased communication with our couples via email. No more paper just scanning faxing (Don't you just love PDF!)
2. My staff and I travel in no more than 3 cars on Wedding Day. Between my vehicle and those of my staff, we can accomodate travel of 18 people in 3 cars.
3. I often encourage our Clients to utilize the facility ceremony space, providing it's a good fit. Having your ceremony and reception in the same location is a great way to eliminate transportation/ travel needs for your guests as well as doing your part for pollution.
4. Within the last year, we've replaced almost all of the lighting sources as well as about 80% of the windows (and trust me, there are quite a few) in our home, to more energy efficient sources-not only is it great for the environment, it's great for the green in your pocket as well!

Everything "Green"
One of the latest buzz phrases in the Industry right now is "Green Weddings". Green Weddings are Weddings that have incorporated ecologically safe components into the event production. From dresses to desserts, items associated with the event are made from products that are environmentally safe. One item that I love in particular is the eco-friendly jewelry. I think that it's great to be able to participate in preserving the environment and personalize an accessory that symbolizes your love that you can flaunt on a daily basis. Check out the selections at Green Karat... how cute are they!

Going Green
It seems everywhere you look these days, there's mention of "Going Green". Today is no different! In honor of "Earth Week" 2007 and yesterday's "Earth Day",today we are discussing "Green Weddings", yet another up and coming trend in the Wedding Industry.
Green Weddings are eco-friendly Weddings which are designed with the environment in mind. There are various ways to infuse the "Green" theme into your big day from the use of eco-friendly products to challenging your caterer to prepare Vegan, Vegetarian, Organic and Raw menus. For the not so daring, even the use of wonderful wines and organic beverages or even wearing "ethical jewelry" — diamonds, gold and silver that have been mined free of conflict and pollution donations , can contribute to an environmental and socially responsible Wedding.
Another way to play your role is through donations to organizatons such as the World Wildlife FundWorld Wildlife Fund. "At the World Wildlife Fund Weddings and Celebrations Site and Registry, couples can choose to enhance their wedding by contributing to conservation and reducing the impact their activities have on the planet. Through the site’s wedding gift registry, couples can create a personalized web page and registry giving guests the option of donating to WWF’s worldwide conservation programs in lieu of traditional wedding gifts. Registry announcements can be emailed to guests with a personalized message from the couple and a link to their gift registry web page. "
